NFL  > Oakland Raiders  > Apparently JaMarcus Russell could not care less
October 27, 2009, 01:42 PM
This story is all over the internet, really rather pathetic. One more reason the NFL needs to put a stop to rookie salaries, these players can retire on guaranteed money before they ever hit training camp.
Why should they care?

"Our tailgate happens next to the road the players drive in and out of the stadium. after the dismal game some of the boys went back to do a bit more tailgating and eat...a white Rolls Royce is leaving the stadium with JaMarcus Russell driving...fans know this and are booing...the passenger side window rolls down and with JaMarcus driving one of his home boys on the passenger side yells out "Well at least we are eating good, you guys are still broke"...and JaMarcus visibly chuckles in the driver's seat..."

Wow did Al ever get what deserves.

He'll be trading that in after the season just to get some double stack hamburgers since he will be unemployed.

October 27, 2009  02:04 PM ET

The worst starting quarterback in the nfl? yes?

October 27, 2009  02:55 PM ET

Let that **** flap his lips. He knows that was the last multi-millionaire contract he will EVER receive. Jamarcus, it's looking like you'll end up being a career 3rd stringer pal. Or you could always head up north, i hear the Toronto Argonauts need a QB.

the black ryan leaf,.................uncle AL'zheimer got what he paid for !!

October 27, 2009  02:57 PM ET

Don't worry, it looks like he spends his money like an idiot. I bet he is diggin' graves for min. wage before he is 35.

October 27, 2009  03:17 PM ET

Russell will go into the LSU, and pro football, Hall of Shame. When he leaves pro football, it will be a matter of time before he is flat broke. Do you think he got a good College education at LSU that he can fall back on? Jamarcus is the poster child for the rookie salary cap. maybe Al Davis can sue Russell and his agent for fraud.

Nice diamond encrusted jersey pendant...what a superb investment.

I can't wait to see it on Ebay.

Its a urn to carry his ego in. This kid lacks any desire, he signed late, showed up the next year 60 pounds over weight, shows little devotion in learning the play book, had low Wonderlic scores, and when told he would be replaced just laughs. The sad part is, he is to stupid to realize the whole worlds laughing at him.

Another name comes to mind reading through your posts, Mike Tyson. Mike had a Lamborgini fetish, then went broke, is still broke and will do anything for a paycheck. (The Hangover cameo was funny).
He was said to have $300 mil in the bank at one time.

Mike bought a $3.7 mil dollar mansion here in 1995 and was sleeping on the street in 2004.

Poor Mike, he should of been a lawyer, that's were the money is.

October 27, 2009  06:10 PM ET

Not sticking up for the guy by any means, but can you think of a worse situation for a young QB. The guys on his team don't care, the owner is crazy and even his coaches are fighting each other in the locker room. He probably spends more time counting his money than watching film.

Actually with that voice I think fighting was inevitable.

JaMarcus should meet with Mike, after all Mike had 10 times the money and blew it in no time.

It all boils down to the "rookie" contracts, the top 25 or so are made for life before hitting training camp. Rarely do veterans get guanteed money (yesterday Ware did but that is not the norm).

The NFL needs to change this, the NBA has it correct, play 2 years at a base salary and then the player and agent can make a big deal. When the player is really good all kinds of endorsements come their way (like Kobe, LaBron etc.) and they still make millions.
Because they are good players after college.

If Jamarcus had to prove his worth do you think he would have put forth more effort and less partying?

Maybe not but then he'd be on the waver wire, near broke and not driving a Rolls Royce. Which is where a lazy, spoiled player should be.

Having a posse around him all the time cannot be good. My guess is his posse never says anything bad about him, it's always the receivers or the screwed up Raiders at fault and it can only get worse.

He is the poster boy for how you can screw up and a terrible role model for kids.

Yes his situation is terrible. Oakland does have players that care but they are few and far between. The hope is very low because they have a 99 cent coach. The owner is dead only he hasn't come to terms. Russell is the biggest bust ever and the worst qb ever. I would love to see him get cut after this season especially if there is no cap. You cut him and have no cap penalties is the perfect scenario. If only Al would give up some power and let a good coach come in and a new GM regime. Oh wait we had John Gruden and traded him. Why? Cuz Al is a freaking idiot!

Well said!!! A couple of my friends and just about everyone in the Bay Area that has watched this guy play feels the same way. Who's getting ripped off here? It's the fans. If fans refuse to go to games unless management makes an honest effort to win then Davis will have to change his stubborn ways unless he is willing to go down with the ship. STOP GOING TO RAIDERS GAMES.

I watched inside the NFL last night, they said the attendance for last Sunday vs The Jets was the lowest in 40 years in Oakland.

They had Asomugha wearing a microphone commenting on how bad the defense played.

The Raiders lost $5.7 mil last year, looks like it will be much worse this year.

You know JaMarcus doesn't care.
