MMA  > General MMA  > Will Frank Mir ever shut up?
November 3, 2009, 11:49 AM
Sure former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has never been Brock Lesnar???s biggest fan, but it doesn???t mean we won???t listen when he has something to say about the current champ. ???I can understand from Brock [Lesnar's] point of view, if he???s not feeling up to it I can see him being a little bit nervous,??? Mir recently told Cagewriter.

Lesnar was supposed to headline UFC 106 for his second unified title defense against #1 contender Shane Carwin on November 21st. Unfortunately for those who have already purchased tickets, Lesnar has some sort of flu which has prevented him from training for the last several weeks.

Even though Lesnar has been in camp preparing for the bout, the fact that he???s taken a few weeks off due to illness would almost be like fighting on short notice, if not worse.

Mir understands why Lesnar would???ve been hesitant to jump into the Octagon with Carwin unprepared, he wouldn???t do it himself.

???I???m not taking a Shane Carwin fight on short notice, I???m sorry,??? Mir continued to say. ???That???s a really tough human being.???

However, Mir also went on to agree with Carwin when he stated that, if Carwin had been the one who had fallen ill instead of Lesnar, the main event for UFC 106 would still be a-go between the two.

???I agree. Shane Carwin probably wouldn???t have pulled out of the fight, because he???s fighting for the title and he???s super, super hungry. Maybe Brock???s a little bit more content,??? the former champion said in closing.

It???s certainly a lot easier to be content when you have UFC gold around your waist.

Mir beating a banged up Nog has really gotten to his head. I used to like Mir, but he wont ****. Anyone else agree or am I just crazy?

November 3, 2009  11:52 AM ET

I think Mir was right on with his comments

November 3, 2009  12:08 PM ET

O don't know. Mir IS cocky, but he is also generally spot on.
I agree with him with the assessments, but to hint Lesnar is more content is to spin it against Blockwhen there's not need for it.
Of course that whoever is the champ will be content. He is at the top of the hill. That does not mean he does not want to fight anymore. Just that he is at the top.

But in his analisys, he is spot on.

How are his comments right on? He isinuated Lesnar is scared of Carwin. He says it in his first comment. "I can understand from Brock [Lesnar's] point of view, if he???s not feeling up to it I can see him being a little bit nervous,??? Mir recently told Cagewriter.

Mir is a bigmouth whos not over the fact that he cant beat Lesnar.

He's not saying Brock is scared, he said that Brock would be nervous to enter a fight against the likes of Carwin without being 100%. Was it Mir's place to say this, probably not. Is he factually wrong, probably not. Does it sound like he is still butthurt, yeah, but I still feel that his comments were accurate.

November 3, 2009  03:54 PM ET

Jim, while I agree that Mir says a lot of stupid/ c_ocky stuff, I think you're over-interpreting his comments in this case.

November 3, 2009  03:57 PM ET

Mir is a total **** but this comment is tame for him and not worthy of a thread.

November 3, 2009  03:58 PM ET

Mir is one of my faves. with that being said, he has said worse. People dislike him because Brock beat him up the 2nd fight

You have to see the actual video maybe. He just sounds pathetic. The video sounds worse than reading it. He just comes across as condescending.

Do you have a link for that?

I like the guy but I know how obnoxious he can get :)

Jim, I just understood differently. he respects Carwin enough to not take him lightly. That's all.
So I don't see anything wrong with it.
Even more, I think Mir is right on spot. And This says good os Lesnar, as he should NOT be over-confident.

I used to like Frank but ever since that Nog win, IDK, his cockiness has just gone overboard. I mean why say I can see why Brock would be nervous? Whats the benefit of saying that other than taking a dig at Brock?

I don't know. I think Mir just likes to use the media to get on people's head.
He might sound obnoxious/pompous, but it is just mind mages (like when he was taunting Lesnar). If he would have won, he would then say a lot of respectfull things about Lesnar (how good or strong he was), but before the fight, it was almost expected of him to say he had Lesnar's number.

And moreover, Jim, I think you are just biased by your love for Lesnar & hate for Mir.
This is why you overinterpret what Mir says, and gets oberly protective of what is said about Lesnar...

Nah, like I said I used to like Frank. Roni, are you telling me it didnt get to his head that he beat Nog? It totally did. Ever since then, he thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Not so much my love for Brock, but more my hate for Frank now. He just wont shut up. I want Nog to fight him again and kick his ass.

November 3, 2009  06:28 PM ET

I really don't know.
I do think he got offended by people dismissing that win because Nog was sick. he felt disrespected. And that's why I think a rematch would have fireworks.

But IMO, he was humbled enough by the shelaking he got from Brock. I don't think he has a doubt on his mind how badly he was beaten up and how one-sided was that fight.

if anything, I think Brock is now on Mir's head, and he is trying to validate himself by clinging to the Nog's victory.

I like Mir. but I want that too.

Nog is my #1. and I am hoping that he will beat mir, and that take it to the champ (whoever it might be) and get the belt that belongs to him (on my mind anyway) :)

I'd love to see Cain-Nog and the winner fights Lesnar-Carwin.

November 3, 2009  07:29 PM ET

Well, Cain would be a great fight, but I would rather have cain-Nog for the belt (after Nog got it from Lesnar/Carwin).
:)

Those seemed like pretty harmless comments. On the Mir Scale of cockiness, I'd only give it a 2.
