About meyers comments on the no call on a late hit to Tebow?
November 5, 2009  12:52 AM ET

Can't tell if Urban is just being Urban, or if he is simply trying to protect players from injury.

November 5, 2009  01:20 AM ET

In terms of what will actually happen to Meyer -

He will most likely be a game-time decision.

November 5, 2009  02:44 AM ET

Not sure what Slive will do. There will be pressure from some quarters to go hard on UM, especially since all the conspiracy theorist (which include some major SEC coaches and alums) seem to think that Florida is the favored child and gets away with everything. But, his comment were in response to a question asked. Would have been smart to just say no comment or something but on the spur of the moment you don't always have that kind of clarity. I think if Slive is going to do anything that it shoud be done by tomorrow if he wants to keep the decision free of speculation that Slive has ulterior motives and the Florida fans decide that the SEC is out to get them.

Would really hate to be Slive right now. He's pretty much in a no win situation.

Wait, what happened? I didn't think you were allowed, or something, to question the refs? Wait.. what?

He sent a copy of video of a play where a UGa defender took a cheap shot on Tebow, after he made a hand-off and was literally walking with his head turned to watch the ballcarrier being tackled, and well away from the play. Meyer was asked of his opinion of the call/lack of call, and he responded that he thought the ref missed it, when he shoulda done the NO COMMENT thing.

Mike Slive recently said he's cracking down on ref comments from coaches, and instead of a letter as first punishment, he'll go right to suspension.

Totally agree. These coaches, Meyer included, are getting insufferable. Slive's job is like herding cats...

The more the SEC mandates fines and suspensions, the more it will happen and eventually it will happen to your coach or someone on your favorite team. I remember the days when Spurrier would weekly say something to entice officials, the other teams coaches or the entire fan base of a particular school. It was great! Political Correctness in the South? 'It just don't fit'. We've got big mouths and we like to say what we're thinking. Oh and you wouldn't need to criticize the refs if they were worth a spit. I'm in favor of publicly announcing the suspension of officiating crews as was done recently.

They'll do nothing. Urban seems untouchable at this point.

Who are you, and where have you been?

I'm just popping in and out this season. Between work and family things have been hectic. My mom-in-law in Louisiana has Pancreatic Cancer so our schedule is wacked out. Get this I have to miss at least half of the Bama/ LSU game on Saturday.

Miss everybody here on the board. Hope things are going well for you. (Okay not too well this saturday but.... otherwise.)

That is an image that brightened my day. All (and I include Saban) the SEC coaches with these little cat costumes on like kids wear at Halloween. Giant whiskers. Being herded by Slive holding a giant whip.

I have a family wedding on Saturday that doesn't end until 6:00. Where are their priorities? The things I do for my wife! My sister, who went to Alabama, got married on the day of the VA Tech game, but at least she had the decency not to conflict with game time.

As far as Meyer's comments, he did what is allowed - send in a video with an appeal. He prefaced his comment with an affirmation of respect for officials and only said what he said in response to a question.

There is a very significant difference between answering a question honestly with the "in my opinion disclaimer," as Meyer did, and totally ripping into the officiating crew by saying, "I wasn't going to let them steal it from us," as the Knoxville Chihuahua did. I think Slive will recognize that and not suspend Meyer. I don't want him humbled until Atlanta.

Meyer issues apology for criticism of official
By Paul Gattis -- The Huntsville Times
November 06, 2009, 12:27PM
Minutes after the SEC publicly announced its $30,000 fine of Florida coach Urban Meyer for criticizing officials, Meyer released the following statement:

"As I stated last week, I have great respect for Commissioner Mike Slive and the Southeastern Conference and I respect this decision. There was no intent to criticize an official after being asked about a situation that occurred last Saturday and I apologize for my remarks."

This was seen hanging on Urban's front door. He borrowed it from SuePa.

That was a big stink from 2002

Rumor has it his wife hung that up (in very poor taste) and JoePa clammed up, took the heat to protect her.
