NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Iowa's loss was good for the Big Ten
November 8, 2009, 10:07 AM
While Big Ten fans no longer have a team in the National Championship hunt after Iowa's loss to Northwestern, they should actually be happy at this turn of events? Why? Because it may result in only one Big Ten team getting included in the BCS bowls and the rest of the Big Ten teams can slide down into other bowls where they definitely belong and where they theoretically have a higher chance of winning.

BTW, another reason to be glad that Iowa lost yesterday is that it means fewer people will bother to watch next week when they play OSU. OSU is going to win big and confirm that the conference again has one pretty good team and the rest are, at best, mediocre.

Don't know if it is an overall good given the money the Big 10 may be out of, but I think your premise is accurate. If Iowa somehow beats tOSU there is no way the Big 10 will get 2 BCS bids this year.

November 8, 2009  10:11 AM ET

And I think PSU, WISC, and Iowa would have a great chance against anyone but UF, Bama, or Texas. tOSU would have a shot at anyone in the country. Wierd year, very few actual elite teams.

Ohio State doesn't have a chance at beating anyone in the country. They can't even beat Purdue who is easily one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this year, and there is no way that they can beat Oregon or LSU.

Good morning Arbi.

... with one impressive defense!

At 8-2, their win-loss record eliminates that idiotic statement.

I hate to say it but tOSU is probably the only "tier 1" team. PSU and Iowa (sans Stanzi) are tier 2.

Oh I'm not saying they aren't the best right now, sure they are. But they aren't the only good one. I don't know anything about tiers. lol.

I was just trying to define good on some level as there are obviously levels of good. In the end though, this thread is drivel and I don't have any desire to perpetuate it.

This would be a good opening for someone who knows how to post a link to a video of Janis Joplin's "Cry Baby".

Or Ozzy's "No More Tears."

Uh, qualitatively I think I'll stick with my original request. Not a lot of musical parity between Ozzy and the Pearl.

Oh, but there is?

Hello Sir Norka! Congratulations on tOSU's victory yesterday, and their top10 ranking in the AP this morning.

I trust the Guide Bear will be roaring soon again? Stop over to the Ice House and have a fizzy beverage on me.

Congrats Norka!

While I would not say that the Big Ten Upsets were "good for the Big Ten". I will agree that they were not the end of the world for the Big Ten.

It is what it is.

Thanks PSUn... trying not to gloat, but that defensive effort by the Buckeyes was incredible in the hostile setting, white out and all.

Upsets were everywhere yesterday! I have to run, Bro Bull is buying!
