Auto Racing  > General Auto Racing  > IRL Renaissance?
November 17, 2009, 02:36 PM
With the infusion of cash from the Izod sponsorship and manufacturers bailing from Formula One, could this mean the rebirth of open wheel racing in America? I believe the new chassis design for the series is due in 2011, maybe Dodge, BMW and perhaps even Toyota (hedging their NASCAR bets) would see Indy as an attractive racing series to market technology. Imagine the hype if Ferrari won the Constructors Championship and Dodge won the IRL Championship. Fiat would be the Colossus bestriding motorsports! The 500 had a glamour that can be recaptured, I feel. I enjoy NASCAR, but there is a unique thrill associated with open wheel racing, from Midgets, to Sprint cars to the IRL. Can the IRL again be relevant?
