MLB  > General MLB  > Red Sox need to improve starting pitcing next year.
October 14, 2008, 09:02 AM
The Red Sox are widely thought to have a top notch pitching staff. But a closer look reveals the opposite. Jonathan Lester and Daisuke Matszusaka are fine as the top two starters. But the problems begin with:

Josh Beckett - Made only 27 starts this year and had a 4.03 ERA. Has been terrible in the post season. He's still young but right now he has to be considered a question mark.

Tim Wakefield - Had another decent year but how much longer can he pitch

Paul Byrd, Clay Bucholz, Bartolo Colon, etc. round out the staff.

The Red Sox need at least one top starter for next year.
