GOOSE EGGS GALORE

The Baltimore Orioles (11-6) ??? 1960 A.L. REPLAY CHAMPIONS -- got off to a rocky 2-4 start. Then Steve Barber (3-1/.181OBA), Chuck Estrada (2-2/.192OBA), and Jack Fisher (1-1/.238OBA) shut out the Tigers, A's, and Yankees in succession, allowing a total of 8 hits across the 3 games.

YANKS HAVE BAD VISIT AT BARBER

All in all, the O's won 9 out of their last 10 games to become A.L. Champions. Estrada, after 2-hitting the A's and fanning 9 during the above 3-shutout-skein, fanned 12 while 3-hitting the Senators in his next start. In the last game of the regular season, the Birds scored 5 in the 9th inning against N.Y. to defeat the Bronx Bombers 7-2 and clinch the A.L. title -- and in this game, Barber and reliever Gordon Jones one-hit the mighty Yankees!

ANTI-CLIMAX

But considering all their starts, the Barber/Estrada/Fisher shutout threesome gave up quite a few runs (38). And the Orioles also struggled offensively throughout the year, hitting only .228. Their season ended rather meekly in the 1st Tourney Round, when they were beaten 3-1 by the 4th seeded White Sox.

JOLLY YOUNG SAINT NICHOLSON

A final season note: Young OF Dave Nicholson, who had only 10 at bats, tied for second on the club in homers (2) and RBI (7) nonetheless -- with ALL of this production coming in a Game 15 8-6 game win over the Tigers, which Dave won in extra innings with a 2-out 2-run tape measure homer.

I am sorry to see that my Uncle's message board was banned. It was extremely popular and, while edgy in certain ways, was good-hearted, inclusive, life-affirming, and friendly. Perhaps people were confused in the most recent episodes that 'Toastie'. the drunken Tolstoy impersonator, was Tolstoy himself?

Since Uncle Walt's posts were in many ways the bright spot of this board and 'carrying' it, it seems not only unfair but not very bright and self-defeating on the part of the editors to 'ban' it.

For myself, I will not ever post here again unless Uncle Walt's board is 'un-banned'.

P.S. In the past week or so, my brand posts received about 1,000 views on this board and Uncle Walt's received more than 1,000. It's always amazed me how self-defeating the editorial practices of message boards are -- a few people are offended by (or, really, jealous of) an edgy, extremely 'hot' thread... and there goes the poster... and the board. Meanwhile, the posts blatantly selling athletic apparel remain. Well, this will now return to being a gloomy, nowheres-ville board now with little traffic and interaction. I hope you know what you're doing. ..
