Is it possible to get excited about a bowl game featuring two teams that are one game over .500... combined? Both Georgia and A&M have muddled their ways through mediocre seasons, and while that may not be such a shock in College Station , it's certainly not what we expect out of Athens . Going into the season, the Dawgs had their work cut out for them. They needed to replace their star quarterback Matthew Stafford, and their star tailback Knowshon Moreno, both of whom moved on to the NFL.

In the first half of the year, UGA tried to put the responsibility on Joe Cox, who struggled under the pressure. Those problems, coupled with a weak defense, led to some very disappointing showings. Later on, the Dawgs went back to the ground game and found some success. That revamped offense needs to show up against an A&M team that can score.

The Aggies did do much this year in the way of beating quality teams, although a win over Texas Tech and close losses to Oklahoma State and Texas proved what the team can do. The Aggies are still looking for a big meaningful win in 2009, and an Independence Bowl victory would certainly turn the trick. However, A&M has its own defensive deficiencies to overcome. Whichever defense makes fewer mistakes will give its team the inside track...
