NFL  > New York Giants  > Hate to say I told you so.... Fire Callahan, Fire Gillbride!!!
January 3, 2010, 08:28 PM
Called the secondary as a weakspot, and got lashed out at by a group of fans that obviously don't get football. Called out the Offensive coordinator, and got the same. Called out David DIehl, and some **** said he was Pro-Bowl material. Guess what, he's not.

Here is what nobody saw... A new defensive scheme that did not utilize the players and pieces the Giants had in place to work, and be effective. People say injuries, I say BULL. Here is why... Remember the Superbowl run? Guess what, the team did not have Rocky Bernard or Chris Canty. Same guys in place this year, PLUS those other two, and the team counld not get pressure on the QB, or stop the run. Kawike Mitchell is not exactly a superstar, and has not done much in Buffalo, and he was not missed. So get over it.

TRANSLATION - system sucks, secondary suffers, LB's suffer. LB's suffer because DL does not create lanes for them to come in and tackle the RB, as they run into linemen that should be tied up with the DL, etc... The secondary suffers because they have to cover for longer than expected, and coverages breakdown. System sucks, because the front seven that had over 100 sacks in the 2007 & 2008 seasons mustered 32 sacks this year (18th in NFL) Down from #1.

Oh yeah, 54 touchdows allowed in 2009, good for 30th. Only St Louis and Detroit were worse. Had the team not had the soft starting schedule, they might have finished 4-12, or dead last in this category, and likely even lower in sacks.

KP being injured might have played a role in this, but it was made very clear that Michael Johnson is AVERAGE at best, however, the system would have failed him, too. Boley was a great signing, as were the others, but the scheme needs to change, and for that to happen Callahan needs to go.

Gillbride, is Gillbride, and will always be the idiot he has always been, that got into a fight with Buddy Ryan on the sidelines while he was the OC for the Oilers. No team with Gillbride ever won a Super Bowl until he was with NY, and the only reason they did was mainly due to Spags' Defensive scheme. He has flashes of occasional brilliance, but then he simply has these gamplans that just don't make sense, like last year in the playoffs against Philly, this year against Carolina, and today's debacle against Minnesota.

It's time for a change and they need to go. The problem is that might also mean Coughlin needs to go as well. I am not a huge Coughlin fan, but he has gotten better. I fear that if they can Gillbride and Callahan, Coughlin will be on a short leash, and if he falters next year, a new staff will be hired, and that will mean a new offensive scheme and Defensive scheme in 2011, and that is even more counterproductive than keeping these two knuckleheads.
