NFL  > Cleveland Browns  > Mangini's Browns Finish Strong...
January 4, 2010, 03:34 AM
I'm certainly no bosom buddy of Mike Holmgren. I don't know what he's gonna do. I do know that he's a west coast offense guy, and for that matter, he's an offensively-minded football guy. I think Randy Lerner did the right thing; he hit one out of the park, actually. So I have to support whatever decision Holmgren makes... and I do think it's his decision alone. But, if it were me, I'd give Mangini another year at the very least. If Holmgren decides to can him, it should be entirely based on the fact that Mangini's just not the guy that Holmgren believes he needs to advance his vision of what the Browns ought to be, and not based on the 2009 Cleveland Browns' performance. All considered, and not saying that he didn't make mistakes, I think that EM's had a reasonably successful year. I loved some of the moves he made (e.g., getting rid of selfish crybabies like Edwards and Winslow), and hated others (e.g., mishandling DA and BQ to the point that neither can possibly have any self-confidence or trade value left, licking the veteran Lewis' t-bag instead of playing Harrison). Mangini would obviously be on a much shorter leash in 2010; that should be helpful from a PR point of view. I say he should be heard out, for at least one, and really at least two more years. STICK WITH IT!
