J. Edgar Hoover, if he accomplished one law enforcement goal during a long career, put an end to Kidnapping in the United States. Kidnapping and hostage taking is still rife in Europe and the rest of Europe's colonial world--but in the case of a colonial sport like tennis, it still can find a wealthy victim's child to abduct--even if that child is Serena's career: her freedom to compete in a racist, dishonest and corrupt sport.
Fortunately, her ability and championship monies are ultimate and the $92K isn't really the point. Serena said,"It wouldn't be that high if I weren't a woman..." because she is aware that the larger issue of her beating white opponents' heads in on the court as an African American woman from el Lay is what is really behind the fine and mugging in the "white" media. The Asian judge who made the lousy call could do it again with the tacit approval of the fops who intimidated Serena on the court that night, and the media cowards and tennis officialdom who publicly tried her without having to meet her face-to-face.
J. Edgar Hoover wasn't as stone cold as Serena's treatment at the hands of professional--colonial--tennis.
