NFL  > Indianapolis Colts  > Last year for Tony Dungy?
October 27, 2008, 11:31 PM
Last year he almost called it quits. Amid a lackluster season, it's fair to ask if he will look to retire again after this season. And besides, do Colts fans really want a coach whose heart is not in it 100 percent?

Well, things have certainly changed since this was written. I think one reason the Colts have bounced back is because of Dungy's level-headed leadership, much like they recovered at halftime of the 2006 AFC Championship against the Patriots.

And I had thought that Dungy said he was done after this year, anyway. I'd like to be wrong about that.

Did Dungy almost call it quits, or did the media make it sound like he was going to call it quits? Every year Dungy retreats with his family and makes a decision as to whether or not to return. This year, however, the media made a huge stink about it.

The Colts were smart in signing Caldwell to be Dungy's future replacement. He's going to make a fine coach, and the transition should be fairly seamless.

Dungy will have a much easier time this year either way he decides. He knows the Colts won't lose their "future head coach". It will give him the peace of mind about the long-term future of the franchise. I personally think he'll come back another year or two - unless they win the Super Bowl this year. If that happens, he'll ride off into the sunset like Bettis and Strahan have done.

Dungy did not almost call it quits last year...and he gives all that he has to the organization...just because he isnt like ur "normal" head coach doesnt mean he isnt all-in for the team..i agree if they win it all this year like they may he will retire a champion...but if not i belive that 2009 will be his last year..Tony is 53 and says he will be out of football by 60..i think he will retire by the time he is 55

only Tony knows if he wants to continue coaching or not. losing his son has taken a toll on him and he wants to be around for his kids and family sake. i wish him the best either way, but if he does retire, the NFL is losing a heck of football coach and a great man in general

Something has got change...our philosophy needs to be tweaked on defense and special teams especially we need a dynamic play-maker... and on offence can we get a a reciever who is at least 6'4" ...someone who will go get the ball (for when Peyton is on one of his off days) and why didn't we sign Deangelo Hall when he was dropped by the raiders?

Coach Dungy has given us a winner EVERY year, with class. It is imperative to keep the coaching staff together. Dungy is loved by his players. Look around the NFL and see the coaching changes and what has happened to those organizations. The Colts need to keep the young players it has but signing Saturday at Center of the O line is key to protecting Manning. We have enjoyed watching the Colts win year after year. Dungy has a calmness and confidence with this team that is unmatched. If the back up TE makes his block on the 3rd and 2 at the 10yd line Peyton gets the 1st down and game over. Instead Manning is sacked at the 1. Mistakes happen.. Don't break up the coaching staff or team.

I understand mistakes happen..however the Colts have bee a Super Bowl contender for the past 8 years and only have 1 title to show for it...that missed assignment always seem to happen in big games...the year the Colts won it all, we did it by running and stopping the run in the playoffs...we did neither last Saturday...and it aint the GM's fault, hell he has tried to sure up the middle by trading for C. Simon and Mc Farland a couple of years ago, however these guys just bounced...I really think had one or two of those guys just stayed for one or two more years we would have to Bowls under our belt...Sorry everybody..I am just on pissed of Colts fan!

Dungy's past was certainly an interesting one.

They should get Al Pacino to coach. Mad he had a great speech in "Any Given Sunday".
