NFL  > Oakland Raiders  > Do the Raiders need new ownership?
October 27, 2008, 11:44 PM
The Raiders haven't won anything in years, and the coaching carousel seems endless. Is it time for new leadership?
October 28, 2008  01:04 AM ET

Yes it's time for old fart Al Davis to hit the can for good. It's time for him retire forever.

October 29, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Absolutely.

October 31, 2008  03:06 AM ET

No, not necessaily. But they need someone to tell Al Davis to shut up and just sign the checks. If someone he respected like maybe John Madden or Tom Flores would tell him to hire a good GM and let THAT person do his job, namely evaluate talent, hire coaches, make trades, and draft - and to give everyone 3 to 4 years, they would more than likely be successful again.

Do I think that will EVER happen? No - because checking your ego, especially when you're old and rich is not very likely to happen.

New Ownership? OH, HELL YEAH!!!
Al Davis coached Tom Flores and The Raiders in the early 60's and didn't win!!! Now he truely believes they can't win without him. Do you know why Dennis Green or Marty Shotenhiemer didn't get hired? They won't take Al Davis ****! No need to interview the best coaches available, the answer is "NO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Definitely!!!

November 3, 2008  02:46 PM ET

New team..there the ones that play and cant get crap, O or D.

November 5, 2008  11:18 AM ET

I've heard that said for a while now.

November 8, 2008  10:55 AM ET

If Al would just come out of the darkness and put to rest hiring a GM, and showing that he can trust others to work the organization and make decisions. Al just doesn't do well when people don't agree with what he thinks. I hope he can find some help somewhere because not many are gonna continue to want to help. The farther that super bowl gets, the worse the future looks for the Raiders.
P.S. I like the players but thats next in this trickle affect. Hope Nnamdi stays next year.

Is the sky blue?

Al needs to go. Hire a GM and a head coach who work as a team and allow them to run the team. All you have to do is look at the SB champ every year...they all have the same thing in common; Strong ownership and GM....everything else falls into place.

December 8, 2008  08:55 PM ET

SafetyBlitz needs to worry about that joke of a team located a few minutes north of Mexico. When your team is talked about as a legitimate Super Bowl contender, yet finds itself closer to post season elimination than it does to a Wild Card Playoff game on the road, probably a good idea to keep your mouth shut.

December 9, 2008  10:16 PM ET

Green was fired from the Vikes and Cards; what makes people think he would be any better in Oakland? He's the last guy I'd want as coach - aside from another Shell rerun that is.
But all that is moot if big Al doesn't step down and turn over control to a competent GM.

December 9, 2008  10:38 PM ET

He clearly isn't all there. He has some sort of weird look in his eyes all the time.

Yes, but that won't happen until he dies. Sorry Al, but you look dead already, YOUR days of Commitment to Excellence are past and YOU should be committed to retirement.

December 10, 2008  06:40 PM ET

It has been said that sometime that Al Davis tries to call the plays him and jerry jones need to just stay rich and die and leave the head coaches and GM alones The have got to be the most meddlesome and worrisome owners i have ever saw

December 15, 2008  10:40 AM ET

YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would consider Mr. Davis the biggest Raider fan of all time, unfortunely being the owner he has let his pride, ego, and irresponsibilty get in the way. The other day ESPN was compairing Oakland to the Detriot Lions and that's down right shameful. I use to love Sunday's but now I don't even care anymore. I consider myself on the fence these day's but want to get back in the game. Mr. Davis PLEASE back off!

December 15, 2008  08:13 PM ET

All your comments have been made with your heart you ******* haters. Their was a time when the oakland raiders were an elite team in the Afl/Nfl.That time is long gone just like Al Davis. The game has changed just like Al Davis. Guys are bigger ,stronger , faster, and smarter. Unlike Al Davis. I have been an Oakland Raider fan for years ,and frankly it`s been miserable. He needs to be shot and killed as well as his son . So someone with some decentsy can run an orginization. The GODFATHA days are long gone folks. He`s ruined that franchise. So all you bronco and chiefs and charger fans stick that in your pipe and smoke it............Raiders till I die, Styles...
