NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Why we wont have a true national champion in the BCS.
October 28, 2008, 11:50 AM
So far our champions have consisted of who belongs in the BCS system. So is our champions of the NCAAF just teams that are allowed to belong to a money system?
Lets take a look for a second and evaluate this.
Utah (2004) First BCS buster, had a decent schedule. But a few things are not brought into the factor. During that year they were able to not only cover all the spreads from the bookies, but make it into a system that basically shut every "non" entitled team out. Then as a insult to a team that deserved more, they were given the token lamb team (Pitt) that did not deserve to be there in the first place. Auburn should have been chosen to play a 12-0 team.
The next year came.
BSU (2005) made it to the BCS scene, with a incredible team that faced what everyone in the "entitled" schools thought would beat them. They (BSU) at least were given a decent school to play, and beat them.

So the facts are this:
1. We all want a true NCAAF champion, yet we dont involve all the NCAA to participate, and be involved in a true NCAA system.
2. The media is just as much to blame for this factor, due to their inability to accept that select teams outside of the "entitled" schools can not only beat all of the BCS teams they faced during their schedule, but compete with the division champions of the ACC/Pac10/Big12/SEC...etc.
3. Many of the top five ranked schools have played weak teams this year in the first 4-5 games, to pad their schedules. Although I have not seen this in Utahs Schedule.

To conclude this thesis I want to leave this last point.
Utah has scheduled Texas over the past years, initially they backed out with the statement that by playing Utah it would be a lose - lose scenerio. Their logic is "If we lose then we are out of the Championship picture, and if we win, we were suppose to." Utah has proven year in and out, as has BSU. That they continue to beat all the intitled teams and win their divisions. So until they are involved in the BCS system, there will never be a true championship. The playing field is only to select teams, so the championship should state. "NCAA champion of select schools".
Thank you.
