This guy has been spectacular this season. Who would have thought his transition to the NFL would go this smoothly to begin with?

This is the feel good story of the year. I never have been a dirty bird fan but this is exactly what Falcon fans needed to forget #7.....all you have to do is win, amazing huh?
Rookie of the Year, hands down.

Matt Ryan is a perfect example of what comes out of a university that requires BOOK EDUCATION as well as FOOTBALL EDUCATION. He is showing the guts and knowledge of a 2 or 3 year veteran. Keep it goin' ICEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can recall the struggles that both of the Manning boys had when they first came into the league...and Brett Favre was drafted by the Falcons and got rid of the first chance they had.(Stupid mistake, but he was that bad) I can only dream of what Ryan might do in five years.

Intimidator, I did'nt follow to close in his coming up years..how did Ryan get the nick Iceman? Thanks!

It's actually "Matty Ice". It is because he is so calm, cool and collected under pressure!

Matty is just plain smart and talented. Pro offense at Boston College. Already knows how to read defenses and get the ball out. Very few sacks. Organization made an unbelieveable draft choice considering that Glen Dorsey, the top DT from LSU would fill a need as well. Ryan is a natural leader and has already earned the respect and admiration of his team. Just listen to the guy speak to the media etc.. He is poised and articulate. This kid is a ROOKIE!!! He is already making things happen and it is not a fluke. Absolutely no QB has shown this kind of skillset and leadership and the ability to absorb fast paced NFL play in thier first year. This is extraordinary given that he is playing a position that requires a much longer learning curve. This story would be amazing if he were a corner, a reciever, or any other skill position, but QB...HELLO!!!

December 17, 2008  12:31 PM ET

Not to detract from Ryan's skillset in the least, but let's give some credit to Mike Mularkey, offensive coordinator, Bill Musgrave, quarterbacks coach, and even Paul Boudreau, offensive line coach. They have taken Matty Ice and a cast of characters that had been all but written off, and created a viable and dominant offensive force in the NFC. With another sound draft and some well-chosen free agents in 2009, there's no limit to where the Falcons may end up in the years to come. Choosing Matt Ryan to lead this offense was a stroke of genius, and he has exceeded even the wildest expectations.

No doubt, your right on target w/ the coaching staff. Well done. A motley crew indeed. A virtual smorgasborg of men who play with heart. They now play for a purpose. They are a true team now. Not a whole lot of distractions. A man's man for a coach. Just look a guy in the eye and ask him to lay it all out on the field. That is what they do. They WILL themselves to win each time they walk out of the locker room. With a few wins under their belt against some tough division rivals, they now know what winning tastes like. Confidence breeds nastiness. A good nastiness. Not an arogant, or selfish nastieness. A nastiness that says..."we ain't your guaranteed W from here on out brother" When you have Atlanta on the sked, buckle your chinstrap and be ready for a scrap. We fight to win so you best gameplan well for the new Falcons. Not a good feeling for the Panthers and Bucs. I am very much looking forward to see what the magician does for this next Draft... Yeah Dimitrov, just keep quiet and go about your business. We know your lookin' at a few gems out there... Just sit tight in the tall grass until Atlanta's number is called. Then make your selection. Yep, just like you did in New England. Just like you did when we nailed Brady, ummm, I mean Ryan. Lofton. Free agent turner. Our big left tackle, you know the guy we reached for in the first round... yep Baker. Uh huh, right down the line... think about em' boys... go ahead and start rubbing those hands together in anticipation. Knowing, we're gonna keep loading up... so we can open up a can of whoop**** of course. C'mon guys, think about it. Each week we are thinking to ourselves...hmmm, can we take these guys out this week?... they got a pretty good team... then the boys come out like a pack of wild dogs and we begin to read the articles during the following week from all the media outlets... yep...They're even beginning to like us because we were the underdogs who fought our way out of a real dark alley. Yep, I just keep readin' and smilin'... With the (insert a fairly high number less than 32) pick in the 2009 draft, the Atlanta Falcons select...you hear that? What? That noise? Yep... it's John Grudens stomach acid churning while he ponders what that magician is going to pull out of his ****, ummm, sleeve. Later gents...
