NFL  > Minnesota Vikings  > Childress Mid Term Grade

Is Brad the right guy in Minnesota? His 4-3 record to date would barely justify his presence, but the team is on a skid lately and his future with the team has started to raise some eyebrows.

Yeah, i agree, but you cant always blame the coach, the players have to also take some of the grief from the fans and responsibility.

November 16, 2008  01:13 AM ET

If we ever want to make it to the Superbowl again, we need to fire childress, and soon. We can't waste Adrian's time being here at a mediocre team. We need to win big, and sign him long

November 17, 2008  01:26 AM ET

Childress + Jackson must go. Need new offensive line. A vetern QB that has an arm or trade draft to get a good QB from college. The way the team is playing this year. Expect another 3yrs before we have a winning season.

November 17, 2008  12:57 PM ET

the guy who needs to go is the guy who keeps calling for play action passes on 4th and 1. i know the game's complicated but you have two of the top running backs in the league. are you retarded?!

November 17, 2008  04:54 PM ET

we need mcnabb .imagine the how adrain would tear up the league if we had mcnabb and plus if we dont get em the bears will and i dont wanna play this guy 2 times a year.He has 3 or 4 good years left in em and we could draft a qb we would be set

November 17, 2008  08:35 PM ET

mcnabb is getting a little ahead of yourself - responding to a rumor that philly will part with him. i do agree though that a veteran qb is badly needed, one not named gus. i'm not entirely sure that there is an easy answer but there is WAY too much talent on the vikings to be so mediocre. chilly admitted today that he was the one that made the 4th and 1 play action call... again... he absolutely has got to go.

November 17, 2008  08:49 PM ET

yea chilly needs to go i can call better plays than him on madden lol

I bet you call 3rd and 3 shotgun plays also- jeeze are you gonna pass chilly? And help the opposing defense take out AP by sidelining him on every 3rd down play- your best player on team not playing on crucial down. Punt the ball from yer own 39- 3 plays later opposing team is midfield. Dont kick it to Hester- You my as well have some1 kick it that can at least tackle then. Throw downfield twice a game- dont want them saftey's creapin back. Play action on 4th- Almost sacked like you should, little or no play action on 1st 2nd or 3rd. Need I go on how inept this coach is? Looks like Mr Noodle from Elmo also...

November 23, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Why the heck is everyone ripping on chilly for, blame the darn players. And as for getting McNabb give me a break. The guy is on his last leg and getting too old.And as for all of you Minnesota fans who are ripping on the Vikes then dont watch them or pick a new team to watch or better yet move out of Mn. because we dont want you here. Yes, they do need a QB, but they need to one that better fits the offensive playbook.

8-5 in a mediocre (at best!) division as of Dec 14, is not outstanding either. Yes, Childress is a competent coach, and has helped make some good choices on player selection. But there is no evidence that he is the outstanding coach or leader that the Vikes need to be what they could be. We have given him his chance, and he has failed to impress... time to move on.

9-5 now, I am going to order some Chili Dogs for dinner and lunch tomorrow. I am starting to turn into a Chili Beleiver!! I love Chili. We totally dominated the Cardinals. TJ and Chilly were great!!!!!!!!

Go TJ!!!!!!!!

Go Chili!!!!!!!!!

Go Vikes!!!!!!!!!

I love reading the comments from the beginning until now. I'm not saying childers and tjack are doing great, but the people had the vikes written off in early november! What a joke. Almost as much of a joke as the person who stated we needed a new offensive line. Our line is far from perfect, but we only need one positition upgraded to be as dominent as we use to be. A chance at being 11-5(not saying it will happen) is a great improvement from the last two years. If we lose out, I will be complaining, but until then I'm very happy with our team.

brad has to go! his play selection is so predictable, same series after series.clock management ,you know he can call time out from the sidelines, take control .the vikes problem has always been the same a big name coach and a proven big time qb!tj has done well considering , brad stinks same as green !i here parcells might be avaiable at some capacity in the near future .maybe thats a direction we should head .!? go vikes

Childress is a competent coach?!?! I guess you think Geo W Bush is a competent leader of the free world too.

Mike Tice may have been a former player, so the big name coach label might apply. I liked him as a coach and thought he delivered a lot more with a lot less talent than Childress. Dennis Green only thought of himself as a big name coach and sex symbol. He was a big coach though. What size shirt did he wear--XXXXL?
Also Bud Grant was a big name coach when he came to the Vikings from the Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Where did he get the Vikings? Unfortunately, to three Super Bowls of which they won none. Those Purple People Eaters and Sir Francis were sure fun to watch though.
Dennis Green could have gotten them to the Super Bowl if he wouldn't have taken a knee twice in the playoffs--in 1998 vs. Atlanta and in 1999 vs. St. Louis in the first half.

December 30, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Let's see...

10 wins out of 17 games is a ~58.8% winning percentage.

Childress' career winning percentage in his 30 years of coaching is 56% (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Childress)

That's about right... mediocrity is mediocrity!

Sorry Vikes fans!!! Until we admit our weaknesses and do something about them, it's another year of false hope.... :(

January 26, 2009  06:57 AM ET

Yep, chilly needs to go. Won't happen in 2009 though.

January 26, 2009  07:00 AM ET

I've been saying all along that Chilly is not the guy. The owner has as much of an ego as Brad does. No way he's going to admit that he was wrong. It's all Chilly's fault too, no players taking any rap here. He made it clear that he was calling the shots. TJ's failings and the rest of the 'on again, off again' offense is all on Chilly. This is not the Browns' situation. He will not take any team to the show and win it, write it down.
