MLB  > Chicago Cubs  > Carlos Zambrano will never live up to his contract....

When on, Zambrano looks like one of the best starting pitchers in the MAJORS. But how often is that? Whether dealing with injuries (over the last 2 seasons) or ineffectiveness, Z just isn't worth the $17, $18 million that he's set to "earn" in the upcoming season. He has his good stretches, but then reverts back to his immature self, ejecting umpires and breaking bats over his knee when he strikes out (somebody tell him he's paid to pitch, not hit 500-ft homers, please). He's won 18 games once (a season in which he lost 13 games and had an ERA of 3.95), hasn't had a K/BB ratio of 2/1 (aces should be at 3/1, which he's never even come close to) since 2005, and isn't even a strikeout pitcher anymore, even though he still racks up absurdly high pitch counts by the 5th, 6th inning in most starts. I've said it for years now, Zambrano is the Cubs ace by default, because there's really no one else in the starting rotation that's any closer to being the #1 than Z (if he's healthy and perfectly sane). Great job once again, Mr. Hendry...
