NFL  > Kansas City Chiefs  > Could the Chiefs Trade Down?
February 16, 2010, 03:47 AM
The majority of the mock drafts probably got it right when they picked the Chiefs to select either the OT Russell Okung or the SS Eric Berry. However, if the scenerio plays itself out and quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen or Sam Bradford are still available, I am sure that the Chiefs phone will be ringing with trade offers.
A team like the Browns, Bills or Jaguars could look to jump ahead of Seattle (which may hope to secure Matt Hasselback's replacement, now that they have a new coach). If the Chiefs do decide to slide down, it would allow Kansas City to obtain the draft picks that they really desire.
A possible deal with say... Buffalo, who now employ former Chiefs Offensive Coordinator and new Bills Head Coach Chan Gaily, could go down like this:
Buffalo would get the #5 overall draft pick and the Chiefs would obtain the Bills 1st round pick (#9), this year's third round pick (#72) and next year's third round pick. The beautiful part about holding the number nine pick is that a player like Rutgers Offensive Tackle Anthony Davis, Florida Cornerback Joe Haden, Alabama Inside Linebacker Rolando McClain or Oklahoma State Wide Receiver Dez Bryant could all be available. Each of these players fit positions of need for the Chiefs and could start immediately.
