NFL  > New Orleans Saints  > Brees=MVP?
October 29, 2008, 10:05 AM
What do you think? This guy has been throwing up stat lines that you normally only see Texas Tech Red Raider QBS throw up, plus hes doing it against NFL defenses!
November 11, 2008  12:51 PM ET

True, but does it equal numbers in the win column? Unlike Texas Tech the Saints are loosing, because they seem to not to be able to stop anyone from scoring and forces Brees to throw everydown to keep up. Thus the gaudy numbers and lack of wins!

No right now I see three players doing more productive then Brees. I think Kurt Warner, Phillip Rivers, and Clinton Portis has a better chance then Drew Brees at the moment.

If the Saints D were as good as any one of those they would have a better record. Another player that comes to mind if he keeps up his winning ways is Matt Ryan.

Yes I believe that Brees is desperving of this award. He goes out there every week and puts out amazing numbers. He can not be a runningback, linebacker, cornerback, or a safety. He is doing his best and that is more than I can say for of the other players and coaches.

When the Saints Offence Scores The amount of Points per game I here people say Drew need to play Def. also. ---Most team scoring this many points per game do win.
This year Drew Brees is the best QB in the Game --He Sucks at LB

December 24, 2008  12:35 AM ET

My point was -- He scores enough points to win just about any game ---His Def. Suck -If Brees had any other def. with winning record he wins the S.Bowl --Ravins--Steelers---Dallas--Giants-- Panthers-- and so on --what would happen --he win

sorry about the other post-- I never read the thing.

No actually I believe he's been struggling of late. And I believe the MVP is possibly going to be Peyton Manning. Or a crazy pick I believe that Matt Cassell could also be in the list with Brees and Manning. And Cassell would fall in there as well. Cassell played great lately that's why.

Everybody blames the defense, but remember, if it wasn't for the defense keeping the other teams in the game, Brees would have never been near the passing record. Look at the lions game, he didn't need to throw, so we were able to run out the clock. Still, I would prefer a better defense. In the words of John McKay when asked what he thought of his defensive execution... he stated "I am all for it."

December 30, 2008  03:58 PM ET

Brees had an MVP-like season, but he won't get an MVP unless the Saints get a krewe of defensive MVPs. #1 offense in the league........8-8. What..... was the defense taking notes from LSU or what?

December 31, 2008  06:52 PM ET

2nd QB ever to throw for more than 5000 yards. He's the Offensive player of the year at the very least. Manning will probably win the MVP solely based on their record.

Panther fan here: after seeing Brees in action against the Panthers last Sunday, I'm voting for Brees. He was the ***best player in the NFL*** this year: don't hold it against him that his team wasn't "up to snuff!" That makes his accomplishment even more compelling.

Is everyone aware that if the best punter in the NFL--the Panther's Jason Baker--had not shanked the ball (the first time I've ever seen him do anything except punt the h*** out of the ball) before the Saints last drive on Sunday Brees would have overtaken Marino???

Marino had some excellent receivers, too: Mark Clayton and Mark Duper. They were fantastic that year, too. Bush didn't play many games this year---and sometimes when he did he got "put in the corner" by good defenses like the Panthers. Can anyone except Saints fans
name the Saints wide receivers?

This really is a no-brainer: Drew Brees, baby.

Of course, playing in a small-market like NO he'll never win the award. And that sucks.

You panther fan get outta here. I definitely think that Drew Brees is an amazing QB it is not his fault that they lost so many games.

January 29, 2009  01:14 PM ET

I love Brees as he was my fantasy QB for two years now and is no question a top 5 QB right now. He is however 'average' on the road (see below) and that is what hurt him:

Home 23 TDs to ONLY 5 INTs for a 115.1 rating
Road 11 TDs to 12 INTs for a 80.3 rating

That's a pretty big drop off. That Saints offense tends to slow up outside of the dome but the defense regardless needs to improve in the offseason, some Corner help and some pressure up front is badly needed. Lance Moore for fantasy HOF!!!
