What do you think this team needs most in next years draft?
November 12, 2008  04:59 AM ET

Looking at this years shortcomings, it would be easy to jump on the obvious problems of WR and cornerbacks. WR is something that we may need to address, but Burleson and Obomanu are fairly young and will be back next year, Kent and Bumpus (who I bet we will sign now Colbert's gone) are developing and we have Robinson, Engram, and Branch (although not really). Also, although our secondary has been struggling greatly, it's important to keep in mind that this is, for the most part, the same secondary that allowed the least touchdowns in 2007. Also, Jennings and Wilson are young and still developing, and drafting a DB in the first few rounds would seem unnecessary. Also, the DB so far have not gotten much help - neither from a lackluster offense missing a lot of playmakers nor a inconsistent pass rush. IMHO, I think we should go for Terrance Cody, a DT from Alabama. Offenses often stack multiple blockers against him, after all he is around 360 pounds (and thats the slimmed down version...he used to be 400). This, I believe will open up more room for the likes of Patrick Kerney, Lawrence Jackson, Tapp, and Peterson, which in turn will make things easier for the secondary to stop the big plays and maybe get a few more INT's. Also, he will shore up the Seahawk's inconsistent run-stop.

Other areas I'd like to see addressed is the OL - Jones is getting old and I don't know how much longer he's playing, but without him our O-line would be a mess for sure. I haven't been very impressed with Spencer or Wahle. This is something that needs to be fixed.

So that's just my opinion - although Michael Crabtree (WR) and Percy Harvin (WR/RB) would sure look good also in Seahawks blue and green

The Bears need a WR. The Chiefs need a QB. The Lions need a QB and WR. The Browns need a WR. And the Colts need a CB

So are you guys telling me there is no chance for a Crabtree to Dallas scenario? I can pray I guess...

Depending on who comes out this year, I would like to see Seattle target a big space-eating DT and a corner with decent size to play opposite Trufant. Wilson and Jennings are both nickel package guys, small and quick, but they struggle playing outside. With as many big receivers there are in the league, those guys just can't play man coverage outside without safety help. A big DT would obviously help plug some holes up front, allowing Mebane to play the 3 technique and utilize his quickness inside, as well as freeing up space for the linebackers to flow to the football and cut down the double teams on the ends. In a later round they need to pick up a QB that they feel can be the "quarterback of the future". Wallace and Frye aren't long term answers, obviously, and Hasselback can't be counted on to stay healthy for 16 games anymore. Besides that, I hope they draft for depth and development on the o-line. One good thing about the injuries this season is that a lot of young guys have gotten playing time. I think Carlson is going to turn out to be a pretty good TE. The wideouts should be better as a unit next season. I don't know if they will being Engram back, but Burleson and Branch SHOULD be healthy, Koren Robinson has played well and looks to have his personal demons behind him, and Bumpus did OK when he had some playing time. Between Morris, Jones, and Duckett they have a decent running game. The o-line has been an issue again this year, injuries and incosistency. If they can have 5 guys play together from trainng camp all the way through the season I think our running game can be pretty damn effective though, sort of like the Giants. Defensively, the DB's have to play better as a group, but they haven't gotten much help from the front 7 as far as pressure goes. If those guys were top 5 in the league in sacks like they were last season I think the pass D would be close to where it was last year. The linebackers are good, and all pretty young. Hill has been awesome this year, and Lofa has battled the injury bug but still produces. Peterson hasn't been as active as years past, but I think that all the injuries to other players have limited his ability to get after the QB and wreak havoc.

They have lost a lot of close games, even with the ridiculous number of injuries. It isn't too big of a stretch of the imagination to think that a healthy Seahawk team would have won the first game against the Niners, Miami, Arizona, Philly, and Washington. This team could easily be 7-4. I know that every team battles injuries, and you can "what-if" anything...I'm just sayin'.

Not sure, I think it really depends on what kind of offense and defense Mora is going to run. Is he going to keep everything status quo or change up? Some where down the road they have to look at replacing Hasselbeck...after 7 sacks on turkey day he probably has another bulging disk. They still dont have a running game. Walter Jones isnt going to play forever so the Left Tackle is in question. The Hawks are definately in rebuild mode this off season.

i think we need ol and some 300 pound d guys and a big strong wr so we can streatch the field and open up the run. the only reason the corners look bad is because we cant get preasure on qbs if you cant get preasure on the qb in the nfl i dont care what corner we have or draft they will look bad.

December 19, 2008  07:22 PM ET

OL in the 1st with either Smith, Oher or Monroe. Walter isn't getting any younger. Wouldn't mind another OL in the 2nd if another good prospect was there. Safety in the 3rd would be a sound idea.

Every position!

January 2, 2009  10:01 AM ET

Taylor Mays. Replaces Russell in the lineup. We don't have anybody on defense that is a hitter. This kid will make 1 or 2 hits a game that will fire the entire defense up.

Seahawks -->WR...i say we draft Crabtree

January 4, 2009  06:33 PM ET

The biggest needs:
A future replacement fo Walter Jones
A LG, Wahle was a stopgap until injury and Porkchop/Vallos are no answer
A C, Spencer hasn't lived up to expectations and has been injured, Vallos is not a good backup
A big WR, Koren's addition has helped this need
A S, Russell is ghastly
A CB, Jennings has busted
A DE, Kerney's injury exposed a lack of good depth for pass rushers

I like:
1. OT: Oher, Smith or WR: Crabtree
2. S: Chung, Johnson, Cook, Smith, Hamlin or C: Luigs, Unger or DE: Selvie, Brown
3. G: Levitre or CB: Lewis, Byrd or DE: Barwin, English

January 4, 2009  10:10 PM ET

If the Seahawks don't make a run for Crabtree or some other big time receiver.. I would be very suprised.

January 4, 2009  10:39 PM ET

I say we pick up a top offensive lineman at the number 4 spot or make a trade for a big time receiver or D- Lineman. Harvin or Maclin have a chance of being left in the second round which would be a good addition. I like Jeremiah Johnson out of Oregon as a 3rd round pick if he is still there.

January 12, 2009  11:46 AM ET

The only real need we have is center. They are comparing the kid from Cal. to Kevin Mawae. He is going top 10. I think we start there. We can pick up more O-Linemen later in the draft. We could trade to get good defensive line men. I also think our backup O-line played better that the starters. To compete in our division we have to find a 6ft plus corner. I would also like to see a safety that the offense fears. Get us back to the days of Easly. We have more than enough receivers. We just need a line that will give our quarterback more than 1 second to throw the ball.

January 14, 2009  04:10 PM ET

Mays is staying at USC so no saftey worth taking that high. i would like them to take Big walts Replacement at LT who could play LG next to him for a year or two cause a #4 pick has got to play right away. If not that i agree with the guy above a 360 pound DT sounds just about right as long as he hasnt had any health issues those big guys are either healthy for life or hurt every year. Then taking WR crabtree is appealing but there are good arguements that he is entering the draft to early and hes more of a one year wonder than anything else which ruskell wont draft. Ruskell also says he like to draft lineman in the later rounds so i look for him to piss everyone off and trade down to make up for that missing 5th rounder and get a 1st and 3rd at the same time.

Nuff said. I'm sick of watching balls bounce off of our WR's hands. You can't run the ball if you can't stretch the field. You can always find QUALITY Guards and Centers in the second round. There is no Haynesworth/Cortez Kennedy dominat DT in this draft so that position is moot for our position. The only reason Crabtree isn't a consensus #1 is because (well actually because the Lions are drafting at #1 and the LAST thing they would ever do is draft another WR) scouts say he isn't going to have a BLAZING 40 time. You know who else they said that about? Larry Fitzgerald who dropped to #3 in the draft. Well that seems to have worked out okay for the Cards.

Nuff said. A key to being able to run the football is being able to stretch the field which we currently cannot do. He would solve that and bring some superstar swagger to this team, something I think we are lacking right now. If there was a Haynesworth/Cortez Kennedy style DT available I could see that argument. There is not. The best OT will be off the board. You can ALWAYS get quality OG's and OC's in the second. The ONLY other guy I think they should even think about is Jenkins who would help shut down the passing game and help on special teams but I still don't feel like he's as special as Crabtree. The only reason Crabtree isn't rated higher is because scouts don't think his 40 time is that great and he's about 1 inch short of "elite" height. Hmmmm.... I remember the last guy this talented that they said that about. His name was Larry Fitzgerald and he fell to the #3 pick in the draft behind Eli and Robert Gallery. I think the Cards are definitely happy about how that worked out.

I also do not see how we can pass up Crabtree. We've been looking for a trustworthy receiver for years. YEARS! The only time that our receivers don't drop balls is when they're injured. We thought we finally got it when we purchased a SuperBowl MVP in Deion Branch (who doesn't have near the size of crabtree alone) but even he can't stay healthy. Yes, I agree we deeply, deeply need a replacement for Walter Jones soon, but you can find gems in later rounds on the line too. On top of that, I'm not really willing to sit and wait 3 or 4 years for and o- or d-lineman to develop; we need a quick turnaround while Hasselbeck, and our defensive studs like Kerney, Tatupu, and Peterson still have gas in the tank. Heck, if they need the cap room for the pick, I'd even be willing to see Matt go and Seneca take over just to get Crabtree. Anyone can throw it up to a receiver like that and Wallace has a lot more talent and smarts then people give him credit for. If they don't take Crabtree, then for God's sake they better just move Wallace to WR and pray that Matt doesn't get hurt. We need a quick turnaround and Crabtree gives us our best chance at it.

P.S. Julius Jones is worthless. Let Morris keep getting his starts and Weaver and Forsett get more touches. Worst free-agent signing we've had in a long time. Ruskell should know better than to take anyone thats been through Dallas, let alone let go.

January 15, 2009  02:16 AM ET

I think Crabtree is too good to pass up. Just the catch at the end of the Texas game alone showed me he's got the skills and the strength to be a Larry Fitzgerald-type player. Branch is often injured, and Engram, while still good, only has another year or two left before he decides to retire. Seahawks haven't really had a big play receiver that put fear in defender's hearts since Largent. We need to seriously consider either trading for or signing a good free agent cornerback. Jennings and Wilson are useless. I haven't heard a lot of buzz over corners in the draft, so an established player might be the way to go. As far as the O-line, we need serious help. The 2nd round pick should be either a guard or center. Wahle and Sims can't seem to stay healthy, and Spencer isn't as good as he seemed like he would be. How we could let Hutchinson go still makes me angry. And I agree that Morris is a much better option at RB than Jones. I'm worried that he could turn into a Michael Turner type player for another team. And at QB, let me say that I love Hasselbeck and all he has done to turn the team around. But, he is getting older, and can't seem to stay healthy. If he shows the same ineffectiveness that he did this year, Mora should make the (possibly permanent) switch to Wallace, who really came on strong the last part of this year.

I agree completely with Kratz... Too bad Ruskell and Mora can't read the posts huh?!?
