NFL  > New Orleans Saints  > Shockey a Bust?
October 29, 2008, 10:32 AM
Shockey has yet to stay healthy enough to make a difference..... yet

Does he pop through eventually?
November 11, 2008  02:04 PM ET

HE's a BUST for the Saints!

November 28, 2008  12:17 PM ET

His whole career has been a bust. All he is a trash talking over rated alumni from da U....the G-men were happy to let him go. They proved in the SB they didnt miss him one bit and if Plax doesnt shape up they will do the same to him....they are prepared to win with whomever wants to play and not be selfish.

November 28, 2008  01:41 PM ET

Overrated...bigtime. Only reason his name is even around was b/c of the Giants, if they werent big or didnt make it to the SB he wouldnt even be mentioned.

I'm a Giants fan, and the first Giants jersey I ever bought was a Shockey. "BUST" doesn't begin to describe his career. He's got pro-bowl talent, no question. Some numbers: 7 years in the NFL: Most TDs in 1 season: 7; most yards, season: 894, his rookie year; most catches: 74, his rookie year; # of 16 game seasons: none; TDs this year, in Payton's offense: none; stats to date, 08: 45 catches, 446 yards, 11 games. In NY he was replaced by Kevin Boss, a second year kid from a D2 college who has 5 TDs this year, played in every game, and doesn't show up his quarterback. If the Saints miss the playoffs again next year, watch out - he'll rip everyone in the organization. To add insult to injury Saints fans, in exchange for this offensive non-event, this year you're sending us your second round pick.

what ever ,he's been hurt! thats whats wrong with bandwagon fans,we get a guy who wants to win an the fans want to run him off. ****,as far as you giant fans you should have no complaints about shockey ,he made sheli look real good his frist couple of years

"what ever ,he's been hurt!"

exactly. he's hurt *all* the time.

"we get a guy who wants to win"

he does? he's out there for one reason - himself. always been that way. didn't matter if the giants won or lost, if he didn't get his touches, he whined.

"he made sheli look real good his frist couple of years "

not sure which games you were watching, but eli was a stone's throw from being a bust before shockey got injured. the rest is history.

i'm glad you're happy with him. no one else wants to put up with him.

Shockey's injuries shouldn't be causing him to drop passes that Brees puts in his hands. He was brought in to be a reliable checkdown guy with potential to break a big play. It doesn't matter what kind of YAC he can get if he keeps dropping the ball.

Shockey is a bust because he acts like he wants to win but doesn't do the fundamentals (like catch the ball, possession first and run second) to pull it off. I've been a Saint's fan since before I knew how football was played so no, I'm no band wagon fan. I stand by players who produce and humble (see Brees, Deuce, and Colsten) and grimace over loud-mouth, over-payed players like Shockey.

I'm thinking he's a total bust. Plus, our other tight ends have really stepped up this season. I say trade him, get a good d-back for him.

January 5, 2009  02:57 PM ET

He is a great casher of big paychecks. Keeps the Tattoo parlors busy. Thats about it.

January 5, 2009  03:40 PM ET

Shockey's a tool. Has been since his second season with the Giants. A big, whining, injury-prone tool. Thanks for the second and fifth picks this year Coach Payton. Go JINTS!

January 6, 2009  03:31 PM ET

The problems with the Saints' free agent frustrations can be said in 3 words,"lack of chemistry." Jeremy Shockey and Drew Brees couldn't get on the same page all season and it had to be embarrassing for Brees. Shockey is past his prime and has an occasional attitude problem to go along with it. The free agent additions of Bobby Mcray,Randall Gay, and Aaron Glenn did nothing to help one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Saints need to draft more quality players instead of trying to build a team of free agents who will never produce. Kevin Kaesviharn,Roman Harper, and Martin Gramatica are players who need to be considered for being the first ones to go before the start of next season because they are 3 of the many who haven't produced big plays.

he will come around if he stays healthy give him and brees a whole offseason and training camp together and he will live up to what us true saints fans believed he would be when he arrived in the N.O.

January 8, 2009  08:51 AM ET

i wouldnt say he's a bust persay, teams could do an awfully lost worse at the TE positon. i would say he's definitely top 10 and closer to top 5

January 8, 2009  12:01 PM ET

I actually believe he was going to be a bust before going to New Orleans. I think he has a lot of attitude problems. And I think the Giants were finding a way to get rid of the problem. And the Saints basically took the problem. And made it even bigger of a problem. Shockey wasn't going to be the player to save the team.

January 8, 2009  01:08 PM ET

no one ever asked him to come in and save the team, all we wanted was the guarenteed yards his **** would get falling over. and in all honesty i like shockey, i think hes a great fit for this offense, but billy miller just blew up this year and we all know payton rides the flame till its gone. look for more 2 tight end formations this year, give shockey and drew an offseason theyll build that trust and we all know seans gna throw the ball anyhow. just watch

January 21, 2009  12:29 AM ET

Shockey would probably play better and stay injury free if he could manage to stay sober.

January 29, 2009  12:34 PM ET

there is nuthin wrong if he complains about not geting his touches

February 19, 2009  07:23 PM ET

I think Shockey really stunk it up in the beggining of the seasson, (REALLY SUCKED AND FUMBLED A-LOT!!!!), but played really good in at the end of the season. But Billy Miller is so much better. Good gob bigsaintsfan

February 19, 2009  07:27 PM ET

Jeremy Shockey realy messed up.We should cut shockey, and stick with billy miller.Billy Miller is sure handed unlike Shockey.Shockey dropped to many passes.GET RID OF SHOCKEY!
