I really don't care who replaces Romeo as long as that coach shows some energy and emotion. Also, please trade Anderson, Winslow, and Braylon. They are all cancers and their bad play and attitudes need to be removed from this team. I would rather rebuild again, then let these guys tear this team down for another 3-5 years.
I'm sorry I've got to agree with Trent Dilfer. Derek Anderson is not to blame for this teams woes. They are going to trade him/let him go and he is going to be the next Drew Brees. the Broncos are just lucky their QB is working out. I can only hope Brady Quinn is as advertised.
There are a lot more problems this team has than Anderson. Like getting a decent O-Line that can stay healthy or a not over the hill Running Back.
I know a lot of people are worried about the Staph infections in Cleveland...how about the Staff infection? Romeo oh Romeo, Where for art thou oh Romeo? He's calling South Bend and Boston lookign for a job.
this team has problems all right but there's not any one one can point a finger at and that includes romeo these guys have to learn to play together and want to win it seems most of these guys have other things on there minds other the game on sundays they have shown they have talent now if they can come together on game day with that talent the browns can be winners either be fans thur the good and bad or find a new team to bring down
You lost one team, you could lose another. Be careful! Go RAVENS!!!!!!
I THINK WHAT WERE SEEING IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF BAD DECISIONS,ROMEO DOES NEED TO GO BUT WHY FIRE HIM DEMOTE HIM TO DEF COORDINATOR FOR ONE YEAR. I THINK HE IS JUST IN OVER HIS HEAD, LET HIM GO BACK TO DOING WHAT HE SUPPOSEDLY DOES BEST. D.A. SHOULD NEVER HAD THE STARTING JOB AFTER THE FIRST THREE GAMES, CAN ANYONE SAY RYAN LEAF,OR MAYBE SCOTT MITCHELL, JUST NOT SMART ENOUGH TO PLAY QB BIG ARM SMALL HEART
WINSLOW IS A BEAST ON ONE GOOD KNEE KEEP HIM, BRAYLON DROPPED BALLS IN COLLEGE
CAN MAKE THE SPECTACULAR CATCHES BUT DROPS ROUTINE BALLS TRADE EM, SPLIT LEWIS AND HARRISON PLAYING TIME, FIRE EVERY LINEBACKER EXCEPT JACKSON AND BELL GET A VETERAN CB AND GIVE QUINN A FAR SHOT,OUR PROBLEM IS ON DEFENSE, DONT GO EXPLODING THE ONLY SIDE OF THE BALL WITH HAVE TALENT

Huh? Braylon a cancer? And you call yourself a Browns fan?
Braylon is NO cancer just having a rough year but he'll get it worked out. I agree about Winslow can't stand his selfish attitude and I think Rucker will be just as god and he'll block better. Browns need a new coach but it's not because Romeo is bad, he's just not a Cleveland Browns type of coach. We need a coach who shows some emotion and gets the team fired up. One who will throw a clipboard once in a while and get in a guys face when he blows a coverage or misses an assignment.
This is my first post here and I guess to familiarize myself I thought I'd just respond to a few things that I've read here and then go from there, if that's okay.
MichiganMaize - First of all I agree with that the Ravens game was must win, no way I thought the Browns would lose to them once, let alone twice. The first half of the schedule was tough. I think changing QB's was a terrible mistake and sent the wrong message. Anderson earned the right to be the QB. He isn't the only QB to get off to a slow start, he just managed to spend a prolonged time there in part because of the play around him.
He basically carried this team the first half of last season and finished the season 7-3. He is the reason expectations were so high coming into this season. He was the starting QB because he is the best QB. I didn't like the drafting of Quinn, in fact, I preferred Peterson over Thomas. Far too often the browns have had a chance to select a back that they could build around and passed.
Thomas played well and was a Pro Bowler and playing next to Steinbach had a lot to do with that, it also helped that Anderson took over the reigns in game 1. Edwards, Winslow, or Thomas were clearly not going to be Pro Bowlers with Frye at QB. The reason Quinn was even selected in the first place was because of that circus atmosphere that was created with Frye and Anderson the season before. The pick on Quinn could have been better used on a player that could have made an immediate impact.
I'm tired of blowing up the team every few years just because fans get impatient. Sometimes you have to stay the course, learn from mistakes, and keep it pushing forward. Cowher is a very good coach, not a great coach. If Cowher had been hired here instead of Pittsburgh, he would have been fired within 4 years. Pittsburgh is just a much better put together and run organization, and it pains me to say that.
Pittsburgh has always stayed the course and coaches don't have temporary seating. I keep hearing that the Browns need an experienced coach, a proven coach, etc. Cowher wasn't proven when he got the job and Tomlin wasn't behind him. Cowher finished 8-8 coming off a Super Bowl season, that's a reflection of coaching. Tomlin appears to be headed for back to back North Division titles in 2 years. The Steelers do things the right way and that's the difference here. Success begins with stability and firing the coach isn't the answer.
the wolf - Firing the coach is not the answer. You want to place blame at the feet of a QB that has put together the best season in team history since they've returned to Cleveland. Anderson won 10 games last season and all you heard were chants for Quinn, what sense does that make? If Crennel was a screamer and spitter what difference would it make? Granted Anderson's decision making hasn't been the best, but the play calling, game planning, and play around him have all contributed, and all that's correctable.
Anderson is only 25 and this is his first season as starter. Frye started the opener last season. Not to make excuses for him, but he missed the last 3 weeks of camp because of the concussion, and the Browns had more injuries to start the season than any other team. To add insult to injury, they opened with Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore in the first 4 weeks. You named Anderson as the starter and he should have held the position unless injured or eliminated from playoff contention. You knew the schedule was tougher, there was no margin for error, and based on his play last season, he earned it.
You have Pro Bowlers not playing like Pro Bowlers and that's not Anderson's fault. You can't keep rebuilding, you can't continue to set the team back with change. Winslow drops as many passes as he catches, Winslow has been disruptive as well as unproductive, the offensive line has been disappointing, and the defense goes without speaking on. Rebuilding would set the team back another 3-5 years and for one do not want to see that.

sme2thcwe - I agree with some of Dilfer said, I thought Anderson not have been replaced, but Dilfer was terrible here. The situations were a little different too. Frye was drafted to be the QB of the future at the time and was considered to be a steal in the 3rd round. Dilfer wasn't making a difference and wasn't helping in the development of Frye, so with a young team at hand, I thought it was best to let the team and Frye grow together. It gave you an opportunity to see that Frye was not in fact a steal. It's not that Frye wasn't tough, but the game just moved entirely too fast for him.
Anderson in my opinion is the better QB. I would fear going against him than Quinn any day of the week. I'm not saying Quinn won't or can't grow into a productive QB, but I think Anderson is the better of the two and he is only 25 years old. Better play calling the last half of the season and the Browns get to the Playoffs. After 1 game, teams have found Quinn easy to defend and there are no service academies in the NFL.
The line play has been terrible, last season I don't the Browns had a single significant injury, this year, that hasn't been the case. Its like that whole Bentley situation created a sense of karma that still lingers. I disagree with you on Lewis, Lewis has by far been the best back the Browns have had since they've been back. You have to give him 18-22 effective touches, not just running him into the back of the line in obvious run situations. Get him some screens, draws, pitches wide and in space. He started the season injured as well but answered the bell. He has plenty left in the tank.
Management should display the same commitment to Crennel as he should have to Anderson as his QB. That's a change you just don't make regardless of what the voices of fans and media dictate. If he said it with conviction the first time it wouldn't have had to be addressed again. This is like Frye/Anderson all over again. Weis is terrible and he more than likely won't last past losing to USC this weekend. You lose to Syracuse?? I'm sure Weis was talking up Quinn as well. There is a reason he fell in the draft. "Franchise QB's" don't slide, not even those perceived to be.
Tn Browns fan - This team has talent, I agree that it's not being best utilized to achieve success. This team was clearly not good enough to overcome injuries and poor play, I put that on the GM. Rogers was the best move made and yet it cost us a draft pick and our best cover corner, who too was injured last season. As great as Rogers has been, the pieces around him have not matched him in intensity. Williams looks lost and appears to take plays off, The linebackers seem to always be out of position, and the corners play 7-10 yards off. That's terrible game planning and scheme.
I hate to see Quinn hurt, but the truth of the matter is, he looked terrible. He completed a bunch of 5 yard passes against a terrible Denver defense with 4 starters out, and people were sounding trumpets. Buffalo took that away, as did Houston, he just managed to luck up and have Buffalo lose. He didn't come close to generating a TD against Houston, Anderson came off the bench with no reps with the 1st team and should have had the game tied (missed FG and Edwards TD dropped) in about 17 minutes of playing time, and he was plagued by drops and penalties by all 3 of his Pro Bowl playmakers. Some people just don't handle success very well, and with higher expectations come greater scrutiny.
Vegadon - You don't demote or fire Crennel, if you bring in a new Coach, why would you force Crennel upon him? What people have to realize is that when Crennel came here, this was the worse situation in the league. The team had been basically been built upon a landfill. No talent, no sense of direction, terrible draft picks, trades, nothing seemed to be done right other than football being back on the shores of Lake Erie.
Its not that he is over his head, I think he should have more input on both sides of the ball, you have a 1st year defensive coordinator and an offensive coordinator in his 2nd season. Transition takes time. Everything seemed to go right last season, this season the direct opposite, but you stay the course, and you work to overcome the adversity. Every team faces it, the great ones overcome it. Prime example is New England with Brady. They struggled, yet Belechik did not bring in a veteran QB, he got it turned around with what they have. His patience is paying off.
Anderson should have remained your starter until he was injured or eliminated for the Playoffs, anything other than that, you risk dividing the locker room and the team. You give him an opportunity to work through his adversity, that's how you define and measure what you have. The only consistency so far has been the lack of improved play around him. Edwards is at least an equal opportunity pass dropper.
How do you make the comparison with Leaf and Mitchell? Leaf was the first overall pick, Mitchell went from a great situation to a terrible one and couldn't overcome injuries. Anderson has accomplished more than both only starting one year. Anderson has been getting the raw end of the stick since he has been here and he has handled it like a champ. His only mistake is putting his playmakers in position to let him down time and time again.
I think I heard that Edwards leads the league in drops at 18, I don't know who is keeping count, but I thought he surpassed that number through 4 games. He bay far has been the Browns most targeted receiver, and I say half of those not connected on have been drops. The Browns lead the league as a team. That didn't change when Quinn stepped under center either, so clearly it wasn't all on Anderson. I would throw underneath Edwards, give someone else an opportunity to step up and make plays.
Winslow's attitude negatively affects the play of those around him. No question he is a talent. When he doesn't play, more guys make plays, when he does, the ball seems to be forced to him at the expense of others. He brings about too much negative attention to himself, just shut up and play ball. He gets called for offensive pass interference far too often, that's because he can't get separation. teams are not giving him that 5 yard dump off and he is getting frustrated, and its carrying over to the field. Quinn couldn't get one pass to him against Houston and thats supposed to be the strength of his game.
You don't split Harrison with Lewis, you spell him, you give him 8-10 touches thats enough to get the most out of him. He doesn't run between the tackles and when teams know he is in the game they sit on screen or plays wide that he seems to take to the sidelines as opposed to turning up in the field. I like Harrison, but he is most effective when Lewis is effective. If Lewis goes down, Harrison and Wright could not carry this team running the ball. They both can provide something that the Browns aren't getting enough of.
The linebackers just seem to always be a step slow or a step out of position. The way Rogers has controlled the middle of the line, with starters out on both sides of him, you would think they would make more plays at the line of scrimmage as opposed to in the secondary. I like Jackson and waiting to see more of Bell. Our corners play so far off they make it easy fort opposing QB's to complete passes. They are never in position to make a play on the ball. Get up in their faces and challenge them at the line, don't retreat at resort to chase mode at the snap of the ball, trust your safeties over the top, if you make a mistake, make it making effort
The tackling has been terrible. Zone doesn't seem to fit our personnel. I think a shut down corner would improve the overall play of the defense. It would be nice to be healthy and get the most out of what we have. I think its the scheme and style of play that hurts more than the talent we have. I think our players strengths need to be identified so that we can put them in the best possible position to have success.
Quinn had a fair shot. You put him in the best possible situation to succeed. NO matter what, he had to beat Denver to support making that move, he didn't. I say Anderson would have hung a 40 spot on that secondary. Quinn was inserted to provide a spark, not take over. No way the Browns should have lost to Denver, Buffalo, or Houston, and they should have beaten Baltimore as well. As bad as things started off, they would have been in the thick of the playoff race.
As bad as Quinn looked against Buffalo, they managed to lose the game (missed FG) I would have pulled him after his first interception against Houston, because not only was that game must win, but aside from the one pass to Edwards, he did absolutely nothing and looked terrible doing it, finger or no finger. He didn't come close to really generating any points, and the defense kept them in the game. The Browns had what, 22 minutes in time of possession? That's from not moving the ball and that was with Quinn.
So you make a bad move by having him start against Denver, at the expense of Anderson, he stinks against Buffalo, yet you can't pull him, he looks even worse against Houston and you pull him late, putting the pressure on Anderson, he actually moves the team under terrible circumstances, and you say Quinn is still the starter? Quinn basically cries to the media, feels slighted even though he was going to lose that game. Nothing he was doing seemed to indicate otherwise. The finger looks like a nice cover for terrible play and now you have to go back to a guy that you kicked while he was down.
To think this doesn't affect the locker room is ludicrous. Why should Anderson go out there and bust his butt? Guys aren't making plays, the fans are against him, why not stick Dorsey out there and find out if he deserves to be #3. Clearly you basically have said it's Quinn's team now. Surely Anderson will be better elsewhere, I can't believe as bad as Quinn has looked all you hear is trade Anderson. If that happens, this team will be set back another 2-3 years and keep the cycle of despair in motion.
SafetyBlitz/DDS - Edwards has been a big disappointment. I am a Browns fan and its really hard to feel for the guy. That's what happens when you run your mouth and bring attention to yourself. In my opinion he seems too concerned about things off the field as opposed to on it. I honestly don't think the media should ask him anything about the team or play of others, ask him about his lack of productivity or lack of concentration as he put it. Maybe he is having a hard time remembering the playbook, or he is confusing it with scripts to commercials. I wish I knew.
He looks like a guy that doesn't want to get hit, work the middle of the field, challenge defenders for the ball, etc. Nobody is gonna sit back and let you run go routes. Moss faces constant double teams, marque receivers accept and overcome challenges. You can say he is having a bad year, but why? I mean up until last season, he was borderline disappointment anyways. The worse thing about making the Pro Bowl, is not going back.
I like Winslow, but he comes across as a guy that just doesn't want to be here. He hasn't reached those lofty expectations, injuries and himself have been his own worse enemy in that regards. I don't want a guy that isn't team first or that doesn't want to be here, and his actions speak louder than words ever could. He is a good tight end, his father was great, let's separate them for minute. As great as his Dad was you never heard him proclaim it, we all witnessed it in his play. I love Winslow, I love his fight, and at times you need the attitude and toughness, but not at the expense of the team.
I like Rucker, I'm wondering when we will see him. If they are going to scrap the rest of the season, then I don't play Winslow the rest of the way. he isn't practicing because he is hurt, let him heal. I don't see any reason why Stallworth would be brought back, in my opinion he is taking away from the development of young guys, there was a reason who was let go in New England, and it wasn't money. he wasn't facing double teams, he just wasn't must have. He will not draw double teams and hasn't added to the offense in any capacity. Play Cribbs, Sanders, and Steptoe. Might as well play Leggat too. See what you have in other people to determine if you can move in another direction.
QUOTE(#16):
Romeo could have also been useful in luring free agents away from New England in the coming years like he did with Willie McGinest. The Pats are probably going to have to part ways with DT Vince Wilfork and others. DT is looking to be a position of need since Shaun Rogers will most likely not be back after this season.
ummm....rogers signed a new 6 yr deal when we tradede for him, unless he has an opt-out clause, he's not going anywhere, and even if he does have an opt out clause, i doubt it's available this soon.
