Well, the Birds failed for the third time in an attempt to sweep a series, and instead ended up taking 2 of 3 from the Astros. That's all right, I'll take two of three all year long. The big positive from yesterday was that Kyle Lohse was pretty effective, going seven innings and allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits. It was a much better performance for Lohse than his first outing against Milwaukee, although it was against a much weaker lineup.

Moving on to the Met series this weekend, I've got to like the Cards chances of taking at least two of the three here as well. The Cards will see Oliver Perez on Friday and John Maine on Sunday night, both of whom have struggled mightily this year. I'll be interested to see how Carp rebounds tonight from his very sub-par outing against Milwaukee on Sunday night. With Carp and Wainwright going in this series though, I like our chances.

The Garcia/Santana matchup on Saturday is also intriguing. Garcia looked great against Milwaukee, so we'll see if he can put a couple of good starts together.

I look for a big weekend from Matt Holliday as well, after he went 0 for the Astros the last three days.

Let's hope the boys keep winning series......

GO BIRDS!
