MLB  > General MLB  > ESPN AGAIN BANS ENTIRETY OF BASEBALL HISTORY REPLAYED
April 21, 2010, 02:21 AM
BIG NEWS?

The Cold War Kremlin-like ESPN message board management has again banned EOBHR posts from its baseball message boards. I have defied them to show that my posts, while humorous indeed in perhaps an unorthodox way, show anything but a profound respect and love for baseball and sports in general. What I believe happens is a few people read them and can't understand them and start complaining about them as a result. Also, these puzzled viewers can see from the view-counts that the EOBHR threads are very popular. So there is also probably an element of jealousy in their anger.

But, with a poorly run board like ESPN's, a couple of complaints -- even if one is by a paranoid schizophrenic and the other is from an ax murderer -- and you're gone from their pristine, perfect ESPN message board that only apparently wants the blandest, plainest vanilla offerings, like "Who's better, Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee?"

Anything, like EOBHR, which is extrapolating and using baseball as a platform for more complex concepts, including alternative baseball outcomes, is banished -- to the chagrin of the hundreds and hundreds of EOBHR viewers which visited the ESPN EOBHR sites each week.

Thank goodness for the wonderful, well-run SI/CNN boards!

I am sorry to see that my Uncle's message board was banned. It was extremely popular and, while edgy in certain ways, was good-hearted, inclusive, life-affirming, and friendly. Perhaps people were confused in the most recent episodes that 'Toastie'. the drunken Tolstoy impersonator, was Tolstoy himself?

Since Uncle Walt's posts were in many ways the bright spot of this board and 'carrying' it, it seems not only unfair but not very bright and self-defeating on the part of the editors to 'ban' it.

For myself, I will not ever post here again unless Uncle Walt's board is 'un-banned'.

Abby

P.S. In the past week or so, my brand posts received about 1,000 views on this board and Uncle Walt's received more than 1,000. It's always amazed me how self-defeating the editorial practices of message boards are -- a few people are offended by (or, really, jealous of) an edgy, extremely 'hot' thread... and there goes the poster... and the board. Meanwhile, the posts blatantly selling athletic apparel remain. Well, this will now return to being a gloomy, nowheres-ville board now with little traffic and interaction. I hope you know what you're doing. ..
