MLB  > General MLB  > What The Hell Was Manuel Thinking
May 3, 2010, 06:36 PM
Manuel continues to coach with blinders on.

To leave Santana in when he obviously did not have it is final proof Manuel is cluelesss. To let his star pitcher be embarrassed like that does not speak well for him. Making excuses & than saying he expects him to be sharp next time shows Manuel has no clue as to the reality of the situation.

Santana is a classic case where you give a pitcher a long term contract at your peril. It is obvious that Santana no longer has a great fastball but the Mets have him for 4 more years after this. The 2010 Santana is what you might expect in his 6 th or 7 th year not his 3 rd. If he does not find it, the Mets are finished. The Wilpons are notoriously cheap so this is especially galling . Their other big ticket items are Bay who lost his homerun stroke all of a sudden. Thankfully, this is Beltrans last year. You would think he would want to rush back to put up big numbers in his walk year but such is not the case. I doubt he will make it this year. If he does, it will probably too little too late.
