MMA  > Fight Club  > Will UFC 91 break pay-per-view records?
November 10, 2008, 12:04 PM
The showdown between UFC heavyweight champ Randy "The Natural" Couture and former WWE star Brock Lesnar on Saturday is expected to set a new all-time high in pay-per-view buys.

Do you think it will? Will this fight live up to its hype?

It might...but the overall card isn't that great. The only other fight I'm interested to see is Florian vs. Stevenson...if Kenny wins he should undoubtedly get the next title shot at 155. After that, I don't really care about the other fights.

December is what I'm anxious for...killer card. And of course Penn/GSP in January is going to be unreal.

My question is whats the hype? It is pretty much just one fight worth watching and thats not all that intesting. It sure is not worth $54.95 unless you got money to burn. I am a UFC fan but unlike most people out there, I now what a good card looks like and this is not one.

It will break the records. This fight is too huge not to.

November 10, 2008  07:40 PM ET

Yeah, I have no clue who would spend $54.95 for any fight, unless you have a group of friends all chipping in. Me, I just head to Buffalo Wild to watch the fights, and end up spending MUCH less while enjoying wings and beer in the process.

Naw b/c they are pushing lesnar like he was a former champ in MMA.

I think what makes successful pay-per-views is monster CARDS not monster fights. Like propain said there is only one other worthwhile or potentially great fight on the card and thats florian and stevenson. Lesner's name will bring alot more buys but as we all know this fight can be over in a heartbeat. Couture can take a big shot and be out or lesner can get caught again I def dont see this being a three-round war let alone a five-rounder. The card on Dec 27th will kill this one anyway; there are like 3 high caliber/main event fights on that card and there are talks of adding silva to it as well just for good measure. That will be a record breaking card.

Randy's return (against Lesnar of all guys), Amir (TUF winner), and Florian vs Stevenson. The Lesnar/Couture fight alone is enough for this card to do well, the only thing going against it's potential to break records is that this the the third UFC event in 5 weeks and people are a little more pinched financially. But those who want to see it will.

UFC 92 has a blockbuster card, and St. Pierre/Penn 2 in Jan. should be great.
UFC 91 has a huge fight and I'm rooting for Florian to win so he can finally get his well deserved title fight. I think it'll live up to the hype. We rarely get back to back main events that disappoint.

One less fight to look forward to. Sadallah is out with a leg infection. I'm guessing its similar to what took Diego Sanchez out for a while? What is it with MMA and "leg infections" is that code or is staph that common in gyms?

Yes, new records will be set. There is so much hype supporting this fight, and I think it will be a great fight.
