NFL  > New Orleans Saints  > What happened to the Defense?
November 10, 2008, 10:11 PM
All this talk concerning the Saints Offense, what about the overrated Saints defensive line? They spent tens of millions of dollars for the two ends and they don't produce pressure on the QB! Isn't that the first line of defense against the pass? Force the QB to throw early and erratic causing incomplete and perhaps a possible interception from the corners that seem to have lost the ability to cover a receiver down the field. Hopefully, they will figure something out soon, like start playing smashmouth football and quit playing like they are scared to get hurt! They have found an offense (passing not running), now just find some folks to play D!

heres the thing fellas, the playmakers are there, truely they are. been watchin saints ball all my life and i know playmakers when i see them. great season by vilma (the 2nd comming of sam mills) how many tackles did jvilma make this year, even better how many went for losses?! theres also porter who if hadnt been injured i think would have had at least 7 picks by now, hell even david finaly played decent ball n a man to man scheme (gj jason you did well) and im not even gonna say anything bout mike (who is in deuces situation only mikes a stick of dynamite who is scrappy and skinny). harper is so good the gmen wanted him str8 up for roman, if only he wouldve had mike or porter covering the wrs while he sat ontop of the routes, watch ed reed and chris mcallister for dag sake. the line has so much potential i wana die everytime were just 34 seconds early here, 2 seconds to late there, and as soon as we can get them all on the field at once we will be better off: speaking of which what ever happened to charles playin the 3 with ellis over center and mcray and smith pass rushing? oh yeah the defensive personel packages were mishandled, misappropriated and down right under utilized! gibbs has got to go loomis or your **** will be next! he has not called good d since sean got his contract after the 1st few weeks of 08 and its eveident weve had injuries but we definitely have the talent and ability level given health and individual responsiblilty, how many games did the week one starting lineup repeat? think about it? where was the d that beat up tampa in the dome? health and personel calls are killing both sides of the ball, it may just be me but i truely have faith in the defense its the guy calling the shots and putting our playmakers in position to make the play, i point the axe in gibbs direction... off with his... well you get the pic?

As a Saints fan I do get the picture. Gibbs has got to go. Period. And we have got to get some NFL safeties (Brian Dawkins is a FA) and they need to look into getting a veteran cornerback after their #1 cornerback Mike McKenzie went down with season ending knee injuries in consecutive years (Louisiana native Nnamdi Asomugha will also be available) D-Line is awesome if they can stay healthy (not too many NFL teams have a better pair of DE's than Smith & Grant). Vilma is a beast in the middle and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know much about football. Fujita and Shanle are serviceable OLBs, although Shanle's pass coverage is a little lacking. An improvement in the secondary (or healthy secondary) can make all the difference. And Jason David played so much better since he wasn't starting. A 5'8" cornerback should never be a starter in the NFL, and he led the Saints in picks as a nickelback.

wow i thought are defense was set. I was wrong, but im sure it had somthing to do about half our defense being on injured reserve. we need pass rushers, players who could get in the back field. we also need better safties, and it wouldnt hurt to get chris mcalister as one of our cb's.GO SAINTS!
