NBA  > General NBA  > New Jersey Nets - OFFSEASON breakdown.
May 30, 2010, 06:59 PM
Offseason: O.K., This all comes down to what they do with the roster in free agency and the draft. 10 wins, no one is safe.
Except Lopez.
The Nets are actually solid in the 2 most important positions on the court, C and PG. Neither are all-NBA caliber, but there are 20 teams out there that would trade their combos for these two. If they don't pick up Doolings and Boone offers- they will have about 23 million to fill 6 spots on the roster. For a team that was so horrid on the court- this is a great position to be in.

Three Scenarios

1. Ho-boy.
Let me throw this at you.
A. Draft Derrick Favors, sign someone to excite the fans (T-Mac for 1yr 5M) just for the heck of it. Add Nate Robinson for 6M 4 this year, 2 the next, get Josh Smith out of
B. NEXT year - Melo becomes available, and Humpries and Yi give you another 8.5M to play with. - that's half a Melo there. Add in another solid player at SG- there are plenty coming due- and you can goto war. Lopez/Favors/Melo/??/Harris - yeah, I'll take that.

2. Sign Joe Johnson and Mike Miller- kiss 20M goodbye. Draft Derrick Favors
Next year get Melo - hope someone grows balls so they can do this in crunch time.

3. Get Wesley Johnson (or swap with Minny to move to 3, get Corey Brewer), Sign Carlos Boozer and get the next incarnation of Chuck Daly.

Bonus - Trade down to 6 (get Anthony Tolliver or Anthony Randolph [plus a pick] - Have to do a sign and trade, but still) or 7 ( Stuckey plus a lotto-Protected #1), get Greg Monroe, then sign Mike Miller or Kapono.
