MLB  > General MLB  > Where do you rank Ken Griffey Jr on All-Time greats?

Joe: Using some arbitrary career numbers:

JRs' numbers are HR/5th (630); RBI/14th (1836); Runs/31st); Hits/ 47th (2781); Doubles/36th (524) and SLGA/38th (.538). (Griffey's BA is .282 and not even in the top 200.)

Reggie Jackson is a HOFer and deservedly so despite a lifetime .262 BA. Reggie's all-time numbers are: HR/13th (563); RBI/23rd (1702); Runs/52nd (1551); Hits/80th (284); Doubles/70th (463) and SLGA/133rd (.490)..

Willie Mays' numbers are: HR/4th (660); RBI/10th (1903); Runs/7th (2062); Hits/11th (3285); Doubles/37th (523) and SLGA/21st (.557). Willies BA was listed as 188th best all-time at .301.

Using these numbers I think it would be fair to say Jr falls somewhere between the two. Arguably, Reggie is probably in the top fifty players all-time, while Willie is in the top ten all-time. So maybe Ken Griffey Jr is in the top 30?

Dan: I'm not really sure. I'd say top 10 off the top of my head, but I'd have to do some hardcore research to get a better measurement.

Rich: That's a toughie. Before the injuries derailed his career, he was on his way to being the greatest CF of all time and in the discussion for greatest player ever. However, with the way his career ended, instead of being discussed with Mays/Cobb as the greatest CF ever, now he's done to around 4th (behind DiMaggio, but probably ahead of Mantle, . As for overall all-time, I would put him in somewhere between 11 and 13th.
