NFL  > Dallas Cowboys  > Dez Expectations!? Only Cowboy Rookie Wr. To Star In First Year Was Bullet Bob Hayes
June 14, 2010, 02:57 PM
Wow!, Lets slow down on Dez. Dallas has had a few pretty good receivers in their history. I was expecting Dez Bryant to waltz out there and put up 700-800 yards this year but history says it might likely be his second season.
Thank god Bob Hayes got inducted because he might've been a better receiver then I remembered. Bullet came to the Cowboys after Dallas started their history with five straight losing seasons. Hayes played his rookie year in 1965 on a 7-7 team. Hayes who was mostly a track star in college after going to the Olympics came out and was outstanding. He had 46 receptions and 1,003 yards with an average of 21.8 per catch with 12 touchdowns. Quite a rookie year. Ofcourse that was around the time Meredith had a better team around him. Dallas actually had no draft their first season so they took a while you get it going. Long story short the Cowboys went on to have an unprecedented 20 straight winning seasons.
But after Hayes a look at the rookie receivers in our history like Drew Pearson, Tony Hill and yes even Michael Irvin shows it may take a while for Dez to Daz. Pearson in 73 had 22 receptions for 388 yards and 17.6 per catch and 2 touchdowns his rookie year. His second season produced 1,087 yards. Tony Hill had only 2 catches for 21 yards his rookie year in 77. On a very talented team he probably sat alot. His second year he had 823 yards. Irvin had just 654 yards his rookie year.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz summer doldrums....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm just a middle aged white guy and clearly not deeply in the know on trendy clothes but I just don't see how one feels comfortable with their pants below their buttocks? How the **** do you keep them up to stroll around the mall? Also do you have to coordinate your boxers with the rest of the clothes? Can you wear a plaid boxer with a striped shirt? Is having your trousers below your buttocks any worse than having a kilt up by your nipples? I wonder if they have this issue in Scotland? Deep thoughts.....by JackHandy....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I think Dez will establish himself as one of the NFL's two elite WRs this year, along with the well established Calvin Johnson.

Barring injury, anything short of 1,500 receiving yards and 15 TDs would be a disappointment for Dez.

All contingent on the o-line. Which looks to still suck.

Romo clearly should have targeted Dez early on last year. Dez is a man amongst boys out on the field. That almost catch he made against the Giants was amazing. Dez leaves it all on the field. Great effort.
