NBA  > General NBA  > Lets be real about the NBA Great players wouldnt have joined another allstar
July 9, 2010, 01:48 AM
All this talk about Larry Bird would not have done this an Magic wouldnt have done that is stupid.. Why ... what are the chances the 2 most talented players to come out of college ever would go to the 2 most storied franchises in the NBA. Back then there was no lottery they went to Lakers and Celtic cause thats what the NBA wanted. Larry and magic played with 6 or 7 guys that were all stars and half of them now in the HOF. The went to teams with great players they were never on a bad or average team so why would they leave. So if Lebron wins a championship with miami it means nothing because he has one future HOF and another allstar on the team get real. Kobe on each of the teams he won championships with had the best lineup in the NBA. Does that make his title worthless no. MJ had scottie a top 50 player of all time. Horace grant an all star at the time.. Dennis Rodman the best rebouder and defender at the time. No guy can win it alone. While as a Cav the talk was come back when you have a ring. Now that he joins talented players you say oh it want count. Bird Magic Kobe all had great players on their team we dont waterdown their legacy because of that. Why do it with Lebron even before he has won one. Oh i feel for the Cavs but i cant hat Lebron for doing it.

what lebron did was simply the desire to win...you can be loyal all you want...but not before it gets to the point of being a martyr in the process..lets face it...he's not gonna win in cleveland...he just went to the route of practicality, that's all...

July 9, 2010  02:11 PM ET

A desire to win is suppose to be in every elite player so I have to leave that part out. He can go if he wants to but leave with dignity. The true alpha dogs in the NBA stay put. MJ had a horrible team in Chicago and hung in there and finally won a title at age 29. He is not what he claims to be...he NEEDS Wade in order to win something. That's not a "chosen one" mentality, it's a can't stick it out mentality. Kobe may have had some problems with Kupchack, but he came around and stuck it out. He had a say in the people that came to Cleveland so he helped them not make it. NO excuses for him...he quit on Cleveland just like he did in game 5. Wade leads and he will follow.

Kobe stuck it out? when Kobe has won his 5 titles he the most talented team in the league..He has Gasol and Bynum 2 of the top 5 big men in the league.. Lamar Odom... one of the best versatile guys.. Artest joined him... So its ok for Kobe to have stars around him because he has been in LA his whole career but for Lebron is bad cause he is going elsewhere to be with better players???

July 11, 2010  09:47 AM ET

True alpha dog means what???? Kobe should have told Gasol not to come help him win.. No to Artest.. Lebron tried to get players to come to the Cavs they didnt want to. So he went where he would be with a talented team. Bird would not have won if he didnt have Parrish Mchale DJ Walton.. Magic would have not won if he didnt have Kareem, Worthy Wilkes Macadoo.. Cooper. Michael needed Scottie Horace Rodman.. Nobody can do it alone..

Yes but, none of those players joined up with another top 3 player in the NBA.

Do you remember after Shaq left LA? They had a couple poor years and what did Kobe do? He demanded a trade and went on national TV and said he would never play with the Lakers again.

MJ did stick it out, but to say he wouldn't have left is not fair to LeBron. Jordan signed an 8 year contract after his 3rd year. In that 8 years he won a bunch of rings so why would he have ever wanted to leave.

Its a Coward generation i think we should show a little more respect for the athletes who never won but never sold out. Soldiers are willing to battle and except loosing if its there destiny. I think Jordan would rather be ringless before teaming up wit Magic, Bird or even Isiah Thomas. LBJ and Wade or cowards LBJ for going Wade for recruiting but i blame it on u fans for giving these players legacys before they earned it like a Jordan or a Kobe y work for anything when u guys have given them everything. The one thing u fans couldnt give them was rings so they are looking to take them with out earning them the way it has always been done. Anything they win is as worthless as the olympic gold medal that they have no respect for. KOBE IS THE KING

You are right in a way but, to Kobe's credit he could have made a fuss and wanted to leave when the team was struggling a few years ago. But he stayed with the Lakers. He could have signed with a better team at the time.... I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm not a Kobe fan at all.

Kobe, demanded to be traded. You must have amnesia. The only reason he stayed was because the Lakers got better players... period!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kobe did make a fuss. Where were you in hibernation? He was threatening to leave.

So Kareem and Worthy were not top 3 player in the league? Magic had a great team. He didn't have to join up with anybody. The Lakers provided the proper talent around him. The same can be said of Jordan. So many people are saying he did it alone. That just not true. He had Pippen (HOF), Grant, Kuckoch, Rodman, Cartwright,Paxton, BJ Armstrong, Ron Harper, Brian Williams, Luke Longely....etc. They even put the proper big-men around Jordan. They were not old and pass their prime as Shaq is.

My bad, I meant fuss in how this FA was panned out. Kobe was being a **** little kid about it, but stayed in the end. Lebron etc were being prom queens about it.

Looks like Dwayne Wade has more pull than Lebron. Lebron probably invited the other two all-stars to come to Cleveland but nooooooooo!!! Lebron and Bosh went to Miami instead because of what? Was it because of Pat Riley or was it because Dwayne has one championship to his name. Bottom line, Lebron should have stayed in Cleveland.
