NCAAF  > Florida Gators  > Florida under investigation, sounds like they did the correct thing and contacted the NCAA
July 19, 2010, 01:59 PM
Florida and NCAA officials are investigating a potential rules violation that allegedly occurred last December involving former Gators football standout Maurkice Pouncey, sources said.

Florida is internally investigating what sources described as an allegation that a representative of an agent paid Pouncey $100,000 between the Gators' loss to Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game to Alabama and their season-ending Sugar Bowl victory over Cincinnati. Florida apprised the NCAA of the allegation after it became aware of it.

"We were made aware of some information in early June that we reported to law enforcement and we then shared with the NCAA and the SEC," athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement released Monday morning to ESPN.com. "At this time we have no information that has indicated that there are any compliance issues for the University of Florida."

Florida law enforcement could be investigating whether the state's agent registration laws were violated.

Pouncey, a standout offensive lineman who entered the NFL draft after his junior season and was taken in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, played in the Sugar Bowl. If found to have accepted the alleged payment, he could be retroactively ruled ineligible for the game and Florida might have to vacate the victory.

"The NCAA is working cooperatively with the university. However, it is NCAA policy to not comment on current, pending or potential investigations," the organization said in a statement released Monday.

If true;
Maurkice Pouncey need to pay for his actions with something other than a huge contract from the Steelers.

Sounds like the agent may have to pay as well.

Florida did the right thing and hopefully that will be taken into consideration.

Isn't it Pouncey whose twin brother is still playing at Florida?

I did not think about that, yes his name's Mike plays guard and his life just got really messed up if this is true.

Yes, his twin Maurice stayed in school, moving to center from guard -- and I wish Maurkice had also stayed, now more than ever.

If anybody thinks their program is safe from these circling sharks they call "agents", think again. Nothing but bloodsuckers.

Dadgummit, I always screw up the twins' names...Hammered has it right. But he moved to center this year.

Looks like the booster should have paid him before the Bama game :)

People who do this kind of crap don't fall under the label "booster".

GRRRRRR!!! What is Maurkice thinking? Dude, wait another month til the bowl game is over, geezus!

And even then make sure that you are going to declare for the draft. Think Antonio Langham in 1992 for Alabama.

These scum agents (as opposed to the decent ones) should have to pay in more than just money
for what they do to these kids lives as well as to their teammates, coaches, fans etc....

Hate this for his twin. It puts him in a difficult position.

Me thinks Mike Pouncey will no longer be attending the upcoming SEC Media days event.

Like Reggie Bush doing something similar wasn't all over the news for the last 3 years! No offense but geez this guy must be dumber than a box of rocks.

That's what really has the Florida faithful scratching their heads. The Pouncey Twins have been nothing short of exemplary student athletes from the moment they started *considering* coming to UF. Up until this moment, they would have been poster boys for what "Gators should be".

If this all plays out as true, it's a real head scratcher.

The booster would have needed to pay more than just Maurkice!

Here is another one:

Pittsburgh defensive end Jabaal Sheard has been suspended indefinitely after being accused of throwing another man through the glass door of an art gallery.

Police say Sheard was in a fight early Sunday and had to be pepper sprayed after he threw the man through the door of La Fond Galleries.

Pitt spokesman E.J. Borghetti says Sheard has been suspended from team activities while the athletic department investigates.

Sheard was arraigned Sunday on charges including aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Police say charges are possible against the other man. Borghetti declined to comment on Sheard's behalf.

The 21-year-old Sheard is from Hollywood Hills, Fla. He tallied five sacks while starting all 13 games for the Panthers last season

Can't someone tell these students they cannot get away with anything, stop and think before you ________, fail to do so and your on ESPN News.

When this happened back in December most people thought Reggie and USC were gonna skate. I wonder if he'd try it now?

Something tells me they taught you better than to throw someone threw a glass door. Guess he was ditching class that day.
Wonder if he would high he would have gone in the draft?
Now he will get on someone's practice squad and have to really perform against pro's to make it to the NFL.
