NCAAF  > USC Trojans  > Pat Haden taking over for Mike Garrett
July 20, 2010, 02:20 PM
Former USC and NFL quarterback Pat Haden will replace Mike Garrett as the Trojans athletic director, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday.

Garrett has been under fire since USC was hit with sanctions after investigations into benefits received by Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo.

Haden is now known as one of the voices for Notre Dame football on NBC. He took the Trojans to three Rose Bowls as a player before playing in the NFL for the Rams from 1976-81.

So will he announce the U$C/ND game?

QUOTE(#2):

When did Garrett get axed? Why wasn't it front page news?As for Haden, he meets the most important immediate criteria: he isn't Garrett. I assume his first move will be a goodwill tour to convince the NCAA he represents a change in attitude at 'SC. Somewhere down his "to do" list is probably establishing/maintaining high caliber sports programs. I have no feel one way or the other how well he'll do that. But I wish him luck.

I did go to espn and it is the second leading story behind the Cubs manager Piniella retiring.

I agree how he is going to fix USC's image is a good question.

Pat was the QB in that historical game, I was there in some terrible end zone seats, but what a game. That cemented my love for college football.

USC trailed 24-0 late in the first half against the nation's top-ranked defense. But with 10 seconds remaining before halftime, Anthony Davis scored on a 7-yard pass from Pat Haden. The two-point conversion failed, and the Trojans trailed 24-6 at the half. Davis took the opening kick of the second half 102 yards to open the floodgates for USC, which scored 35 points in the third quarter. Davis scored twice on short runs and Haden threw TD passes of 18 and 45 yards to Johnny McKay. Less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, the Trojans scored twice more on a 16-yard pass from Haden to Shelton Diggs and a Charles Phillips' 58-yard interception return for a touchdown.

USC also just announced that they will be giving back Reggie Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy.

Is it theirs to give back? Or do you mean Bush had given it to the school to display and they're returning it to him?

That what the article says at espn. I would have thought Reggie has it and it's his also, but the school just announced they are giving it back.

I'm pretty sure the Athlete gets a statue and the school gets a statue. I really wanna say that there are 3 "trophies" handed out when someone wins, but I can't think of who would get the other one...

The school is giving their copy back and removing the display case that included Bush's retired jersey.

The school's action doesn't have any effect on whether Bush keeps his copy of the statue--that's between Bush and the Downtown Athletic Club.

USC, Plan "B":Throw Garrett and his arrogance under the bus, disassociate with Bush, show significant contrition, try to get the NCAA to acknowledge these moves by giving us back 15 of the 30 scholarships they took away.

Is that was this is about? I figured it was just a vain attempt to upstage the SEC's Media Days.

I'd think you would be more worried about an open Mike Pouncey

I have a feeling that he will not be at SEC Media Days.
