MMA  > General MMA  > Rampage Jackson verbally agrees to face Lyoto Machida at Nov. 20 UFC event
July 21, 2010, 09:17 AM
Sources close to Jackson claim it is a doe deal on his end. Jackson was quoted as saying:

I would tell ya'll who I'm gonna get down with, but I can't spell his name. Hahaha

Agreements have not been officially signed but since evans camp didn't seem to be interested in fighting Machida again there is a good chance that this could happen.

Thoughts folks? Good or bad for fighters/fans and who ya taking?

I actually really like this matchup. Rampage obviously lacks the speed to keep up with Lyoto but unlike the Evans fight I don't think there is a fear of the takedown. I don't think Lyoto has the power to KO Rampage and Rampage clearly has that power to KO Machida. It will be Machida by dec or Rampage by a big KO.

Rampage takes him down over and over again and finishes from the mount.

Whens the last time you saw Rampage try to takedown an oppenet and control a fight?

Not Chuck, not Henderson, Not Forrest, Not Jardine, obviously not Rashad!

He did takedown Dan and control him.

His best work in that fight was done from the sidemount.

And tell me, who among those that you listed are better strikers than Rampage? Lyoto probably is a better striker than Rampage. Quinton also tried to take down and control Wand in both of their fights, as well as the Lindland one.

Look for Lyoto to be elusive and frustrate Quinton standing, then Rampage will take him down and use knees to the body from sidemount and jump to mount and get the finish with highlight reel punches.

That last Wnady fight was a one and done though.

remember both of their styles. Rampage will hunt you but slowly. Machida is a counter striker. Rampage has great hand speed and can def ko machida. rampage will be the patient one here cuz machida lost his last 2 fights (yes he def lost shogun 1).Machida is going to want to make a statement.

If Rampage is back to be 100% focused on fighting, i think he wins...

This is a clash of styles. I like it.

good to see you around Lanzo.

And I do agree with what you said, but I don't think that he will play the stand up game with Lyoto. I think that if Lyoto wins it will be by decision (boring) or submission.

And why do people say Machida doesn't have the power to KO Rampage? Did everyone forget the Rashad fight already?

I say Machida takes it. He will be to quick for Rampage, and Rampage still hasn't proven he can defend a leg kick. Machida is going to kick him the whole match.

KOing Rashad is nowhere near the same as KOing Rampage.

It doesn't surprise me that Rampage can't spell other people's names.

Has anybody ever gotten his autograph? Half the time, he leaves out the C in Jackson. And the R is usually backwards like in Toys 'R' Us.

No, but I am just saying Machida has some power as well, so don't be suprised when he keeps Rampage off balance with it.

keeping rampage off balance with it, is alot different then KOing him. There is no way that machida KO's rampage.

Rampage has no chance in taking machida to the ground. If Evans had touble with it, then rampage has none.

Rampage by KO or Machida by boring decision. Im hopeing for rampage by KO. I dont want to see shogun vs machida 3. shogun has solved the riddle of machida.

Unless rampage get rocked (highly unlikely) this fight will be standing so I don't see it ending by submission cuz machida not going to submit rampage standing

Rampage needs to get in takedown mode if he is to beat Machida.

Because, flat footed as Rampage is, he has the perfect stand-up style for Machida to take apart.
