MMA  > General MMA  > Can Cain stop Brock?
July 29, 2010, 11:02 PM
OK, I say no he cant. Cain will have better standup, but wont have better wrestling or ground game for that matter, and will be giving up 30 pounds. I think the speed of the two fighters offsets. So, my question is do you think Cain can beat Brock, and if you dont thin he can, who will derail Lesnar in the HW division?

I don't think Cain can derail Brock. No weapon on the table to confound Brock.
JDS might be able to outpoint Brock with the right stand-up strategy and angles.
After that, I don't know. Overeem might be able to go 3-7 against Brock if they fought 10 mythical times. If Brock clears the current UFC table (Cain, JDS, Carwin II), I can see Dana going after Overeem.

Carwin will derail him.

Cain can't. Won't I should say.

Cain is giving up easily 30 pounds, possibly more. He doesn't punch as hard as Carwin though but I hear he's close but I highly doubt he can do it. Carwin is the only man to be able to do it, but he's gotta work on his acidic problem there first.

I don't see any of those guys beating him. Brocks ground game is too good and he has very good cardio as well.

Maybe they should let Mir fight him again, just so we can see Mir get pounded again!!! hahahaha

Mir can, if he implements a good gameplan for a change, and avoid being hit.
Carwin should be able to if he learns the lesson and paces himself.
JDS probably can do it standing, and on the ground with his BJJ, although i think Lesnar's gameplan of crowding opponents might throw JDS off (JDS likes more slow paced fights). it would be a tooss up to see who imposes their will.
Cain I just don't see it. I don't think he has the power to drop Lesnar, but then again, he shut me up against Nog... And I disagree that if cain takes brock down he should let Lesnar stand again. One strong suit from Cain (or Lesnar) is that he doesn't let you breathe. why would he deviate from it? But like I said, I don't see him taking Lesnar down OR implementing any GnP.

Overeem, I think he can take on Brock 9 out of 10 times. But that is now. Give time and this will change. I mean, after brock passes through Cain, JDS, Carwin II, Mir III, and maybe Roy, then we are talking about years. By then Lesnar will probably be either retiring or knowledgeable enough to take Overeem'e edge away.

And Roy - I can see him winning against Lesnar. Lesnar drops Roy, he can hold him like he did Mir. He can't mount Roy (no one can with that gut). And Roy probably can reverse and lay on Lesnar's face and I don't see Lesnar lifting Roy...

Carwin, if he keeps it standing up and improves his cardio.

carwin got way to caught up in the fight
he lost his plan(i would too if i rocked lesnar in the first minute )then with the ref standing over him saying "if you dont move i'm going to stop the fight " over and over and blew himself outwith arm punches.
cain i think will do well if he adopts a similar strategy - stop the takedown pick your shots
i do think brock is not as bad as we have seen with his hands but he has to warm up with striking alittle then his punches are straighter and quicker but i dont think he can throw a combo to save his life

JDS has the striking to dominate brock but i dont know if he has the takedown defence
roy nelson is actually the perfect test for him to see if he is worth the hype

a "crafty veteran" with great wrestling and submission skills (especially if you are a cheesburger) with decent hands(not good enought to stand toe to toe but better than fabricio werdum)

Well, he is always introduced as a Kung Fu fighter. Maybe we have a possible trademark issue brewing...

That would be hilarious

I agree that JDS probably has the best chance. I think that a disciplined striker could pick him apart, perhaps even make him go night-night. Given Overeem's size/striking ability, I'd probably take him more like 50% of the time. Are we going to say that Roy's the man for the job if he walks through JDS?

I think JDS is going to have a very difficult time with Big Country. Dana can't stand him and I think it motivates him, plus he isn't a slouch either. He is a very skilled fighter.

I like the heavywieght division and all the guys we are talking about, but no one in the division will derail Lesnar.

If Carwin couldnt finish him then I dont think anyone in the division can. And no one is going to take a decision from him cuz of the dominating wrestling.

I just dont see anyone stopping Lesnar.
