NFL  > General NFL  > Dumervil out! Are the Broncos in trouble in 2010?
August 5, 2010, 04:20 PM
Wow, talk about a major blow to the Broncos. Total stud Elvis Dumervil signs a $61.5 million contract 10 days ago with over $43 million guaranteed, and now might be out for the season with a torn pec. That really sucks for the Broncos, and for Dumervil. I like that guy - seems to be a class act, a lot like Champ in the class department.

You have to wonder where this leaves the Denver pass rush for 2010? He pretty much WAS the Denver pass rush. Not sure who his back-up is or how much of a drop-off in productivity they will experience, but man that's a blow akin to the Chargers losing someone like Gates after just signing him, knock on wood.

I hate seeing anyone hurt, but particularly a guy like Dumervil, who is a great guy and really deserving of the contract extension he got. I hope Denver doesn't do what one report said they could do - declare him healthy in the next offseason and cut him before the season starts, thereby avoiding a good portion of the guaranteed $ payment. Sounds more like something AJ might do, anyway, as opposed to the Broncos organization.

Bottom line is that I see this as a major, major blow to the Broncos' 2010 season.

Clady out was huge, Dumervil out was bigger. like you said, Champ is no spring chicken anymore, and the rest of the secondary is questionable, so im hoping somebody, Moss or more likely Ayers is able to step it up and give us pressure on the QB. as for Tebow maybe some wildcat/goalline stuff? who know, depends on how fast he can learn the offense i guess, but if the season is a disaster the locals may pressure McD to start Tebow, dont know if that would happen thouh, McD isnt excactly a "do what the fans/media say coach"

im projecting that the Broncos will draft in the top 10 next year. There has been just way too many losses for them to overcome. They no longer have their top offensive or defensive threat (Marshall and Dumervil), their best O-lineman is hurt, secondary is filled with either the elderly, the inexperienced or just garbage, their hired gun NT in Williams im not sure if he will ever be healthy this season..... but hey at least they didnt purchase another bunch of Browns rejects!

They didn't trade up in the draft to get him and pay him 33 Million to ride the pine. Most Q.B.'s drafted in the first rnd. now days start Flacco, Ryan, Stafford etc.

They are hoping that he gets to sit a year, learn the offense, and adjust to the speed of the game...plus he will be a big help when it comes to selling tickets, and they have to do someting after the Cutler, Marshall screw ups....you do not get rid of All-Pro personnel that is less than twenty five years old in any sports.
