Yeah, it's a pre-season poll. But as Auburn found out in 2004, the pre-season poll can have a significant impact in where a team lands on the final poll.

Oregon is higher than I would have thought with that horrible Rose Bowl game and losing their QB.

Ditto for Texas :)

When I saw USC absent, I started looking at the 'others receiving votes' to see where they stood. Then I remembered.

Man, it's gonna be a loooong two years (at best)

I prefer Steele's poll... :)

August 6, 2010  02:17 PM ET

I wouldn't have ranked North Carolina in the top 25. I also think Boise State will have a dropoff with the loss of their DC Justin Wilcox.
I'm surprised that Miami is ranked that high, but I think they do have the potential to be really good.
Arkansas needs to show that they have a defense before they deserve to be ranked in the top 20.
I would put Cincinnati at #25 instead of WVU, and I wouldn't have even thought about ranking Oregon State at all.
I'm not surprised at all that Tennessee isn't in there.

I like this poll. Seems just about right to me. Then again, I've been swamped in stupid stuff.

It will all work itself out by the end of the year. Lots of teams are playing each other.

Alabama should be ranked 18th. We're just not going to be good this year....

Learned something from gator97, UF should not be in the top 25.

Miami and Florida St. back in the top 20 again? Is it me or does it seem like a long time since.

August 6, 2010  03:27 PM ET

Texas higher than I expected. New QB, rebuilt O-Line, and key losses on D.

Option 2 is correct. It HAS been a long time.

We'll see how long it lasts.

August 6, 2010  03:49 PM ET

The top 3 are the same as the books have them to win the NC.

Alabama 9-2
OSU 5-1
Florida 8-1
then
BSU
TCU
Oklahoma
Texas all at 12-1
Nebraska
Virginia Tech at 15-1
and so on.

August 6, 2010  03:54 PM ET

Nebraska is over-rated for sure. Oklahoma is better than Ohio.

First thoughts, based on how the teams will end up at seasons end this isn't too bad (if its based on the talent on-field its pretty rough though):

SEC 6 teams- Overall about right, LSU seems a bit low

B10 4 - About right, Iowa and tOSU a bit too high

B12 3 - Got this one wrong, there will be at least 4 in the final poll and probably 5

ACC 5 - Too many teams represented. Look at the OOC schedule for each poll team-they will each probably loose at least one big OOC game and they will beat each other up as well. Final poll will probably have 2 or 3 ACC teams in it

MWC 2 - About right depending on how the ground game goes for BYU.

BE 2 - About right but take out WVU and throw in USF

P10 2 - Given that USC is a no-go this is about right, one team only might even be right (although you could make a case that the mid-to-upper-PAC is every bit as good as the ACC teams in the poll IMHO there is not much difference btwn CAL, UCLA, and UW as compared to UNC, GT, or FSU- all good teams but not dramatically better than each other (UNC would be if they could find some offense))

WAC 1 - Too low for BSU, but 7 of the other top 10 teams play each other so if they take care of business against VT and OrSU they will move up.

We shouldn't even be in the top 40!

They do. They had alot of injuries last year which hurt. Now we have depth at almost every position and young players who have played for 2 or 3 seasons now become juniors and seniors. I thnk this is the best team we've fielded since 2002.

OU better than tOSU? Real tough call, I would take whoever had home field. Unless you meant Ohio University, then you are certainly correct.
