bah. I saw about doing this TD.
I would have gone with the spider to win.
Are you sure you're not Krypto (our in house GSP Nuthugger)? :)
I don't think GSP would hva ethe size to do what Sonnen did. GSP is very lean and would probably struggle to make MW. Just my opinion though.

He walks around at 195.
And says he is still putting on muscle.

Ok, but isn't the rumor out there that Silva walks around at around 215?
QUOTE(#7):
Ive heard 210, but GSP could get bigger, and his wrestling technique makes up for the rest of it. I really dont think its too much of an advantage because of the style and technique of Georges.
I can't really judge it off of one fight though. Before this last fight no one thought GSP could dominate Silva the way you are saying "other than krypto" hahaha.
I have heard 215 or 220 for Silva.

I think GSP would be able to do exactly what Sonnen did except for one thing and thats take a punch from Silva. Sonnen got the takedowns and landed a few shots standing but he had to walk through a few big shots to get there, I don't know if GSP could handle one of those 10-15 second onslaughts from Silva.

Yeah but remember GSP is amazing at avoiding damage, and he woyuld setup his takedowns better. Plus his speed is amazing.
Not really in disagreement with you, just the what if factor. What if he does get hit, can he take the punch??

QUOTE(#9):
Well to me, it would be a sin not to make this fight.
in this I think everyone agrees.
I just don't see Silva going down. This will be up to GSP to pull a BJ Penn and go up to fight the best...

nah, he can't. Not against someone like SIlva. I mean look what Serra did, and he's not a pinpoint artist with ahuge reacvh advantage over GSP.
Look, I do like GSP. but IMO Silva was just bad in his last fight.
Not to take away from SOnnen, but I put this more on one bad fight for Silva than simply a "blueprint on how to beat Silva".
Let's remember that Silva fought Hendo and dominated him. He was taken down on the first round but defended well and won the fight onthe second.
Add that with the fact GSP is smaller and if he adds weight, he will probably be slower, I don't think he will be able to beat the spider.
QUOTE(#17):
GSP go caught behind the ear. That could happen to any fighter. Anderson has lost more fights. Big deal. Lets look at the matchup. Can Anderson stop the takedowns? No, he cant. So GSP dicates where the fight takes place. How can Anderson KO him if hes being dropped on his ass the whole fight?
Jim, the fact you are wrong is exactly this.
One fight and all of a sudden Silva can't stop takedowns?
What if this was his plan? he knew that Sonnen is bound to get caught by submission so he let Sonnen take him down and it paid up!
Again, as I said, Silva fought PLENTY of wrestlers and this was the first time he was dominated. I disagree that he has weak takedown defense.
He might have had an off day, he could be hurt like he said, or even maybe he was off his game by all trash talk from Sonnen.
Maybe even Sonnen was just extra-inspired.
But is is BS to say for sure that Silva can't stop takedowns.
this is not the first world class wrestler he foung, you know? :)
QUOTE(#18):
Look, Im not even a fan of GSP, but going in I knew Cahel would be able to take Anderson down, because that Andersons weakness.
that's the thing I can't see.
Maybe you can help, but how exactly did you see takedowns as the weakspot from SIlva?
Where else was he dominated by a wrestler?
I do agree GSP is a great takedown artist. this is not what I am disputing here. I just don't think this is really a weakness from Silva.
And on the other hand, I noted GSP was caught because he was. And by someone who would not reach past Silva's chest. let alone have the reach advantage Silva holds against GSP.
PLUS Silva's the most accurate striker in the game bar none.
You say what ytou want, but did you se Sonnen's face? for someone who got hit less than 30 times, he looked in worse shape than Silva... Could GSP take this beating? I don't know
Add the smaller reach for GSP, and Silva will probably have a body triangle before tounching the ground...then elboes to the head and GSP is history
