I saw the game and he did look good, but that was against the other teams subs...When he played against the Ravens last season, I thought he did very well...
What do the Steelers do if they go 4-0 and the offense is blowing everybody away?
They benched Joe Montana when his sub played great, but Montana was out like 2 years though...
But the best comparison would probally be the 1990 Giants who kept Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms on the bench, when Hostetler had a hot hand...but this is a good problen to have...
I remember Oregon coming to the big-house and Dixon murdered our D. He will give opposing D-cord.'s nightmares.
I am a big fan of Byron but his days as a starter are probably behind him.
I would never bet against them especially if Troy is playing.
Dixons one game last year at the Ravens.
12 for 26 1 TD and 1 INT., 3 runs for 27 yards not bad against that defense for his first game.
The big question is will Byron make it out of camp heathly?
They lost 20-17 in OT.
Looking at the Steelers schedule last year,
I forgot they lost to Chi, Cle, Oak, (twice to Cinn) and KC.
Troy not playing had to have been just as bad as Ben sitting.

Byron has potential to be like Charlie Batch though, not a starter but a solid backup when the starter gets injured. I think Dixon has a good career ahead of him though and should get a shot.

ripper, the Steelers have made it pretty clear that they have no intentions of using Dixon s a wildcat type of player. Evidently, Randle El is their gadget guy, like he was before. Dixon probably won't be with the team next year if he has not made himself the clear choice as Ben's back up. I'm with you--these first four games go to Leftwich. Unless he stinks it up, of course.
That and the Steelers aren't a gimmick team, and I still think the wildcat is a gimmick. It's not Steelers' football.

Another thing that occurs to me . . . is that ^^^^ a good thing? I haven't checked the stats, but Kordell wasn't what you would call a good or very good QB, was he? I remember the Steelers were able to win games while he was the starter, but he always seemed a bit like a gimmick to me. Pretty much an average Joe, right? Maybe if I reviewed the stats on Kordell they wouldn't bear out that he was just average, but it's the impression I have.
It depends on what day you are asking lol. He had amazing games and then he had down right bad games. Kordell's problem was inconsistency which I think depended on the defense he was facing. If the team wasn't a good run stopper he was good, if they could stop the run and get to him before he could get time to set up a play he was bad. He was a scrambler, but not the most amazing passer.
Dixon could go 4-0 and Ben could go 0-2 and there still wouldn't be a quarterback controversy. Roethlisberger is the quarterback for the Steelers and thats not going to change anytime soon. If Dixon does awesome, maybe he'll fetch the Steelers some draft picks.

were those rumors true about kordell ??.......or was it just another rock hudson/jim nabors' joke ?.......[serious-curious] .
The rumor that he had some sugar in him?
QUOTE(#14):
Oh .... and he also cried on the sideline after being pulled one game and argued with Cowher another time he was yanked (dont!).Kordell was standing off to Cowher's right side yelling and Cowher just stared straight ahead with his jaw jutting out.You could read Bill's lips saying: "Not now ..... not now!" ... over and over again.Rocker was right ... he was too inconsistent and too unappreciative.I never liked the guy because of it.
I agree, I couldn't wait for him to leave. Then the Steelers got stuck with Maddox who wasn't any better. Roethlisberger was a breath of fresh air and legal problems aside I like him as a QB. I just hope he learned a lesson this time.
The Steelers took a flyer on Dixon and his knee with a fifth round draft pick. Here is a kid who had an offer to play baseball and decide to stick with football. He played well last year and has picked up where he left off. He needs to be elevated to 2.
