BTW-using AP rankings until the BCS rankings come out like last year. So around OCT USC will disappear if they don't lose until then.

August 24, 2010  11:47 AM ET

I like most of your picks, although I think if BYU or N.D. win it will be closer than that. Purdue handed the Buckeyes their only conference loss last year and the Domers are unknown with a new coach and QB. Washington does have an experienced Jake Locker at QB, I wouldn't bet against them this early.
The Rebels losing by only 10, really have you ever seen us play? make it more like 40, unless the Badgers are hungover, then they only win by 28.

WISC will be good, but UNLV has a decent history of getting a great start off the blocks and they are a lot better talent-wise then they will get credit for. My gut feel is UNLV gets off to a great start with a tie or lead going into the half and WISC just grinds them down in the 2nd half.

As for ND and BYU, you may be right, I simply think ND has got a great coach finally and will win all the games its "supposed" to win for the first time in many years. BYU has more overall talent and for all the J. Locker talk the dude still has a losing record.

Except for these four games and the other notables, it looks like a lot of blowouts. I want to remind everybody that the last time Boise St. opened away from the blue turf, 2005, they got SMEARED 48-13 by UGA... that being said, the 05 Broncos gave up more points, (317) than last years squad, (240) which pretty much returns intact for 2010. Hokies by 12.

Didn't BSU open at OrU in 2008? Maybe it was a late SEP game, but they did win at Oregon if memory serves. You are right about one thing, my feel is the game won't be all that close-either VT beats BSU up on the lines and runs over them or BSU's passing game goes crazy.

August 24, 2010  12:28 PM ET

I'll take tOSU by 4 scores, Purdue to win, Va Tech to shatter Boise's dream..they rest eh..

August 24, 2010  12:30 PM ET

1 Alabama vs San Jose State: The "TIDE"al wave comes crashing down on San Jose State, Alabama 48, SJSU 12
2 Ohio State vs Marshall The Buckeyes perform a rodeo show extrabaganza and rope in the thundering herd, tOSU 45, Marshall 18.
3 Boise State vs 10 Virginia Tech Boiste State Makes there claim for the NC and again the Hokies look ill to form for the season opener, BSU 34, VT 17
4 Florida vs Miami (OH): Gators get a little more than they bargined for with what should be a warm up MAC team but still pull off the win, the score only shows the 4th quarter pull away but for the first 3, UF gets a run for there money. UF 38,Miami of Ohio 24
5 Texas vs Rice: Texas wins the battle for the lone star state and explains to Rice that "this ain't baseball season no more!!" Texas 55,Rice 12
6 TCU vs 24 Oregon State: TCU Looks ill to form and falls flat against the mighty Beavers!!
OSU 29,TCU 21

August 24, 2010  12:55 PM ET

Week 1: Wake Forest vs. Presbyterian.
Week 2: Clemson vs. Presbyterian.
Week 3: Does anyone else in the ACC want to play Presbyterian?

August 24, 2010  12:57 PM ET

Does any other team in the deep south want to play a Div. 1-AA team?

August 24, 2010  01:33 PM ET

7 Oklahoma vs Utah State : OU does there season opener sacrifice to the OU Gods and Slaughters the Season open as usual: OU 58, USU 14.
8 Nebraska vs Western Kentucky Nebraska puts a blank on WKU, Cornhuskers start to show glimpses of greatness. Nebraska 35, WKU 10.
9 Iowa vs Eastern Illinois: Iowa send a message through the Big Ten that they are not all defense and there offense is something to be worried about. Iowa 49, E.Ill 13.
11 Oregon vs New Mexico The ducks air ir out against NMSU, get close to 500 combined total offensive yards but have difficulty with the red zone. Oregon 28, NMSU 16.
12 Wisconsin vs UNLV: Wisconson Runs the freight train show on UNLV so rough in the first half that the score is misleading. Make no mistake Brett Bilma and the crew close this one out by 35-7 in the first half but only manage 7 maore the second half with the back-ups. Message here is "Don't get hurt" for Wisconson. UW 42, UNLV 17.

Makes a lot of sense though - with 3 or 4 cupcakes OOC all you have to do is split your conference games to go 8-4. Will cut Miami and FSU some slack though, they both play 2 good OOC opponents.

maybe Presbyterian...?

August 24, 2010  01:37 PM ET

PS The Blank still stands for Nebraska, Key stroke error. Final score
Nebraska 35,WKU 0.

August 24, 2010  01:52 PM ET

13 Miami (FL) vs Florida A&M: Miami seems a little flat for this game and pulls off a win looking less than spectacular, Miami 24,FAMU 18.
14 USC vs Hawaii: USC Opens the lane Kiffin era and sends the Rainbow Warriors home to Haiwii a little worse for wear. USC 38, UH 21.
15 Pittsburgh vs Utah One of the best season openrs in my book. A great test for both teams. I give Pitt the edge in this nail-bitter opener, Pitt 24,Utah 21.
16 Georgia Tech vs South Carolina State GT runs all through the SCSU defense with the triple option and get over 200 on the ground. GT 32, SCSU 14.
17 Arkansas vs Tennessee Tech: Mallet makes a claim for the Heisman throwing for over 300 yards in 3 quarters of play. Arkansas 45, TT 12.
18 North Carolina vs 21 LSU Another noise maker for the first week turns into a fizzle with LSU showing dominance over UNC. LSU wins but the score makes it seem closer than what it really was, LSU 28 UNC 20.
19 Penn State vs Youngstown State: Penn State never gets caught over looking anyone, not while Joe Pa is running the show in Happy Valley, PSU puts on a clinic against YSU and sends them back to the ranks of I-AA. PSU 52, YSU 18.
20 Florida State vs Samford: FSU is geared up and ready to roll, Samford, well....not so much, last years offensive draught gives way to the Noles as they Tomahawk chop there way through Samford and Ponder get 300 + in the air. FSU 49, Samford 10.

August 24, 2010  02:03 PM ET

22 Auburn vs Arkansas State: Auburn comes out and plays like a number 22 team againsta much weaker opponent. Auburn gets the W, Auburn 38, Arkansas State 3.
23 Georgia vs Louisiana-Lafayette: Georgia's pretty peaches in the stands and pagentry makes up for a flat game. Uga-ly is the win and UGa is snoozing in his dawghouse by halg time. Both offenses are so anemic that the defenses are questionable also. UGA 18,LLU 12.
25 West Virginia vs Coastal Carolina: Devine is so fine for WVU and get 198 on the ground and 250 + in combined yards before the horse is put back in the stable by the end of the 3rd quarter. WVU 38, CCU 7.

VT over BSU, LSU over NC; no other upsets of ranked teams.Other games - Washington, Notre Dame, Navy and...... I have no clue who wins the game in Ann Arbor. I flipped a coin and it came up U-Conn.

Agree. Not a lot of upsets in the top 25 except VT and LUS winning over BSU and NC.

Only change I have is Michigan will beat UConn. I flipped a coin, too.

Your kinder to our Rebels than us locals, just can't see any Big-10 team coming here and doing anything other than blowing us out.

Unless

They can't handle the heat, the game starts at 8:PM so the sun will be gone but that turf will still be smokin hot all evening and the air temp. will still be in the high 90's when the game is over.

There sure is a lot of anti Boise State feelings going around. I love it when they make a BSC game but no way they should play for the NC, SOS is just not there. Ranked 3rd is just wrong.
