OK guys, at the eve he is about to claim back his belt, let me start a thread about him.

I hate him. Absolutely HATE him, and want him to lose every fight like chuck, sleeping in the canvas!

HOWEVER, I do think he is the best LW in the world and a top 5 P4P, no matter his recent loss.

It is my opinion he is just too accomodated with the knowledge he is really a prodigy.

Even in defeat, he never acknowledges his opponent.
GSP, Frankie. Always an excuse.

Look, I say he LOST to Frankie just because he should have NEVER waited for a decision.
he know enough to murder Frankie in 60 seconds or less.
The fact frankie survived and won is BJ's own fault for just sitting onhis laurels and doing NOTHING.

Now look, I know you will say "but BJ countered and outpunched Frankie and should have won 3 rounds to 2 and I say Balooney! BJ should have dominated him the same way he dominated the crazy-yes-boy and the pointy-elboes! There's no excuse for his lackluster performance.
It is the same as the turtle & the rabbit race. There's no reason for the turtle to even get in the same lap as the rabbit. and if it happens, i see more as a failure from BJ than an accomplishment from Frankie. Frankie will try his best, but it is BJ who will define the outcome.

Anyway, enough with my rambling and let's open the floor :)

SOUND OFF, FN!!!

BJ's the #1 Lightweight in the world. Sometimes he just loses focus and doesn't train as hard as he should.

He's got incredible BJJ and great boxing for MMA.

He's good enough that:

- He can beat just about every Welterweight out there not named GSP

- He fought in Japan against Machida (when Machida was a HW!) and lost a razor-thin decision

ok, what now ?
This loss was.... unexpected...
and on the other hand, it looked just likes rounds 6-10.

Why didn't BJ start the bout by taking Frankie down? this was his only time to shine, and even there he couldn't keep up with Edgar....

I see it as this..

In every sport there is a team, player, coach that you can't beat. For example, A MLB pitcher has a great season and goes 17-5 or whatever and all 5 losses are to one team. He just can't beat that team. That is what I see is going to happen with BJ and Frankie. BJ just can't beat him.

Just my opinion of course.

Not sure how this loss was unexpected. BJ Penn is not the only guy training for a fight and not the only one training to get better. Reguardless of how you scored the 1st fight, we all saw that Frankie Edgar could hang with BJ and that should have been enough proof for you to realize he could do it again.

i see it as more of a BJ showed his weakness the first time-cardio, and tentativeness.
this second fight i thought would be edgar trying to outlast penns cardio for the first two rounds and if he did that he would win a desc but he went toe to toe in the first two and gassed penn

I hope your eyes aren't as Psycho-looking as Bonnar's. That dude looks crazy!

I was actually scared when I saw his face. I flipped through the channels and saw him and kept flipping.

I don't know what to think of Penn right now. Is he inconsistent? Not train hard enough? Just plain out fat and has no cardio? I don't know.

Thoughts?

I put my money on "not enough dedication".

The man is done, his good years are behind because he doesn't train with the passion that's required to be the champ.

nah.
BJ said first he had a cold and could not train for the 1st fight.
Then, I also assumed he had a bad night while I thought Frankie had a great night.

I also thought BJ would have been ready for this rematch, and that he would be ready to take the fight to Frankie instead of waiting for him.

Obviously I was mistaken, but this was still IMO unexpected.

that's the thing. I thought his last loss would have been a wakeup call.
Obviously I was wrong... he just assumed he would win....

but now what? if he can't be the champ, what will he do?

How about a new camp? He can just do the same thing.
