I like that. great idea for new topics too!!!
I think Sakuraba would take it. I like Randy, but I think he would lose.
The fight would be something similar with what we saw of him & Nog....
It's easy to think Randy's ground and pound would be the difference but Saku is not your average fighter and he never stuggled against wrestlers. He had a problem with guys that had great takedown defense and great stand up. I think he could get a slick sub on Randy. Especially with the PrideFC rules. Randy wouldn't have the cage to press his opponent up against.
With the PrideFC rules I'm gonna say Saku via Submission late Round 1 (10 minute 1st rounds in pride)

Well, you partially gave away the answer. I think Randy's size and weight advanatge would be a factor. Sakaraba has beaten bigger guy though and was a monster on the ground. Wow, Im not too sure. I'll say I would take Randy by decision.Tying Sakaraba in the clich and using ghe cage to dirtybox. And if went to the ground I think he could avoid sub attempts.Would be a classic though.
Remember JimJ77, I said Pride Rules for this one. No cage

hehehe the sneaky TDbubba :)
The ring is difference maker for me here.
Randy is something like 3-3 inside a ring, because the clinch loses a lot of its effectiveness.
I am giving the nod to Saku (by decision) mainly because of that.
We are getting Sakuraba vs Mayhem on the next Dream card.
QUOTE(#9):
Seriously? NIce. Who do you like?
It is a tough one for me to call. I love both fighters. Mayhems stand up is sloppy, but Sakuraba lacks power. Sak will be smaller, but he may be a hysically stronger grappler. Mayhem will be better off of his back, but Sakuraba will be better in the top position.
It is a close one, I can't edge either way. I can't wait for the fight though.
As for the thread, the difference maker is Sakuraba's submission offense and Randy's lack of submission defense. He will take Saku down, no doubt. But with no cage to press Sakuraba against once down, he will get sub attempt after sub attempt on the ground and get swept and finished.
The striking game is a close one here. Saku has that left kick (high, low, middle, he throws it anywhere), Randy the overhand right, but Saku has more accurate counter punches and straights.
This fight is Sakuraba all the way, in his prime.
Right now I am picking Mayhem over Sakuraba.
In both their primes I would go with Saku but right now I have to go with the younger fighter.

Ah, you stole my comment. I was going to saw the same thing.
People discuss future theoreticals on the regular, but past theoreticals are actually just as interesting sometimes, because we have the retrospect.
I'm glad you liked the Idea. I have a few more fights lined up for discussion
I would have liked to have seen Ken and Frank Shamrock fight while they were in their primes.

That is the dilema I m presented with: I think Saku is a better fighter but has age slowed him enough and dulled his skills enough that he has gone below Mayhem? My heart thinks Saku will win all the way, but my mind is not so sure.
Sak does still better hands than Mayhem, and he should in theory at least still have better wrestling. Mayhem is just so young, athletic and well rounded though.
I can't wait for the fight, there is no real loser in a fight like that.

Both will also try to out-fancy the other.

Yeah, the battle of the ring entrances alone will be worth the price of admission!!
