NFL  > San Diego Chargers  > Bolts Trade 7th Round Draft Pick For Patrick Crayton
September 3, 2010, 05:22 PM
Old, slow, small, unable to separate. Yawn. Bye bye Josh Reed? Wait, Crayton IS Josh Reed! Now they have two Josh Reeds?

End the madness, AJ and VJ! Two Josh Reeds is two too many!

Not knowing the Chargers team all that well I didn't think a 7th rounder for Crayton was to bad of deal, question is what effects if any does it have or say about the Jackson holdout.

They would have been better off trading Norv Turner's favorite pet rock and a PB&J, for last year's 4th and long winner Jesse Holley....LOL

Seems to me if you trade a 7th round pick for a legitimate player it is a good move. Clayton now has a new outlook and is no longer under the "cowboy" microscope. He can just go out and play, the deal turns into a 6th round pick if he has over 40 catches, which is very possible if he and Rivers gel.

This will be his 7th season does that translate to old? I don't know just asking.

His stats in the last 4 years receiving
Catches
36
50
39
37

One word comes to mind, consistent.

4 fumbles in his career 1 fumble lost

One word comes to mind, WOW.

Total 196 recs. and 1 fumble lost for a 7th round pick. Again WOW.

The years he had 50,39 T.O. was on the same team.

I agree he's worth the 7th round pick. In fact, I definitely think the Chargers got the better end of the deal. They usually do when they make trades. Just yawning because they already have 2-3 receivers who fit into his mold.

And actually, with Rivers throwing to him instead of Romo, his numbers might go up if he can manage to take the job from Legedu Naanee. But I don't see that happening. Crayton is really just injury insurance, and maybe he can push Naanee for the job? He certainly has more of a track record than Legedu does. And yes, at 31 years old, he's not ancient. I just don't see his best years being ahead of him.

All in all, I came off too negative out of the gate. It's a decent trade for the Bolts. And it's a guy who could possibly make an impact. I hope he does. This whole VJ thing just has me wound up. And the McNeill holdout, too.

Lomas Brown was on ESPN2 this morning predicting a downward slide for the Chargers this year. Maybe that put me in a bad mood. Haha.

Maybe Norv Turner sees something in Crayton that he can use to his advantage, he fits the mold because those are the receivers he likes? Maybe Crayton gives the Chargers a different option in certain situations? 4 or even 5 receiver sets? Plus Crayton is used to the Giants D and the Eagles D and the Redskins D. Now, he has to worry about the Raiders D, the KC D, and the Denver D? I think he's in an easier division.

Good points all, EJ. Definitely in an easier division, although there are some pretty decent cornerbacks in the afc west. I hope he can help the Chargers out.

The only thing worse for Craytons prestige would be if they traded him for the rights to draft "Mr Insignificant".

so is getting Jackson signed before, or even after the season starts, not going to happen ?Are the Chargers just moving on without him ?

The problem with him is that he has to serve a 4 game suspension...makes him hard trade

Yeah!

Without Jackson, who'll pick up the slack? He lead the league in DUI's!!!! No way Floyd can have that kind of production.

And who'll kick the penalty flag?

Too many unanswered questions without Jackson for my taste.

what did he get suspended for ? I`m sure I have heard before, but due to alcohol related dain bramage, I can`t remember.

Jim, it's a long story about Jackson, and Left Tackle Marcus McNeill. Suffice it to say that it looks very much like the Chargers have left Jackson in their rear view mirror. The guy has 2 DUI suspensions, and his next violation will get him a year. He's out three weeks on DUI suspension, plus now the Chargers placed him on the roster exempt list, which means he must sit an additional three games after he comes back. He wants 5 years, $50 mil., $30 mil. guaranteed. Don't we all. Chargers think he's too risky for that deal, particularly with the 2011 no CBA year looming.

Just today, apparently, after the Chargers gave yet another team authority toi negotiate with Jackson, that team came to terms with him. But when it came to the trade demands of the Chargers, no deal could be reached. The Chargers won't pay him, but they are demanding that same level of compensation back in a trade. They undervalue him when they negotiate with him, and overvalue him when they talk trade with other teams. No word on who that other team is (maybe Vikings?). They already let Seattle talk to him, but they couldn't come to terms with him.

Word on the street (whatever that means) is that McNeill will eventually be signed to a long term deal, but jackson is history. Talented guy, but he's a pain-in-the-neck diva like so many other WRs are. AJ Smith is a hard arse who never lets players get over on him. I'd be shocked if Jackson ever dons a Chargers' jersey again, except possibly after Week 10 because he must if he wants to accrue a year of service credit that will get him to unrestricted free agency bliss at year's end. Even then, he might be relegated to the bench by that point. Oh well.
