NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > Does the sun set and rise over Texas
September 13, 2010, 07:21 AM
Now I know I'm going to catch it from you TX fans, but the comment was made that once Neb leaves the Huskers will lose their recruiting power in Texas. Granted some of our most memorable players came are from TX i.e. Turner Gill, and Tommy Fraizer come to mind. Problem with that is we had no affiliation with TX when they were recruited. Now I know TX is and always has been a great program but CFB does not rise and set over the Longhorns. Comments have been made that have lead me to believe a few of you think that CFB would fold with out the Longhorns. I thought a schools success was measured on championships not dollars. Got on the TX Longhorns web sight and found out you have only 4 National championships, one of which was awarded to them before they lost their bowl game in 1970. Who won it that year? Oh ya it was the Neb.
We all know TX is and always will be a power house, and I will never take that away from them, and I know they have produced some of the finest players ever but there are great HS athletes out there from every where, and don't fool yourself just because a team doesn't have affiliation with TX doesn't mean their that it will be any harder to recruit there.
Now I'm writing this a few hours before I have to have my last chemo treatment today so don't think I'm running from the thread it just might take me a few days to get back to ya, so unload I know I got it coming.

Well...if you are in New Mexico I guess you could say that the sun rises over Texas....and then go to Louisiana and then you could say that the sun sets over Texas.

That work for you?

Tommie Frazier was from Florida not Texas.

I'm the one that made the recruiting comment you took issue with.

Nebraska has 25 TX recruits on their roster. Kansas, Missouri, OU and OkState also have a bunch. These kids played against each other in high school and they look forward to playing against each other in college. It comes with being in the Big 12. When Neb moves to the Big Ten that aspect will go away. I expect Gill will capitalize on this opportunity in the dog-eat-dog world of CFB recruiting. That was my point.

There ya go.
That answers that question!

I will say this -

The state of TX does have a unique opinion of itself.
When popular Dallas radio station, 99.5 'The Wolf', announces the time they say,
(in a booming voice)

"It's High Noon in Texas!"

September 13, 2010  11:34 AM ET

And by the way, for all you NON-Texans,

It's 10:34 in Texas!

Maybe a little, but Nebraska is still Nebraska. The Texas in-roads by the Cornhuskers won't evaporate and actually give them access to a non-traditional Big Ten market. I think the Texas recruits are going to give Nebraska a little bit of an edge. The coaches relationships with the HS players an HS coaches won't go away.

Ok sorry I misunderstood. You are right it is a dog eat dog world in college football. But JRM makes a great point good coaching and a solid recruiting staff is what makes a good program, and I'm with him don't know where he is getting them but he is. And another thing JRM is right about with the number of schools you have at the college level it's hard for anyone to recruit in TX. Once again I'm sorry for misunderstanding you try to understand I put up with a gomer who says he is a TX fan but only cheers them on to be annoying. Just last week I said Mac Brown Is going to be ok and he asked who Mac Brown was. This is why your comment rubbed me wrong.

I think come next year anything that has to do with Texas will be the least of your worries!

Welcome to Big Ten! It'll be great to have ya!

Don't Mess With Texas!

The stars at night, are big and bright,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The prairie sky is wide and high,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The sage in bloom is like perfume,
deep in the heart of Texas,
Reminds me of, the one I love,
deep in the heart of Texas.

The coyotes wail, along the trail,
deep in the heart of Texas,
The rabbits rush, around the brush,
deep in the heart of Texas.
The cowboys cry, "Ki-yip-pee-yi,"
deep in the heart of Texas,
The dogies bawl, and bawl and bawl,
deep in the heart of Texas.

----------------------------------

Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl.
Night-time would find me in Rosa's cantina;
Music would play and Felina would whirl.

Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina,
Wicked and evil while casting a spell.
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden;
I was in love but in vain, I could tell.

One night a wild young cowboy came in,
Wild as the West Texas wind.
Dashing and daring,
A drink he was sharing
With wicked Felina,
The girl that I loved.

So in anger I

Challenged his right for the love of this maiden.
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore.
My challenge was answered in less than a heart-beat;
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor.

Just for a moment I stood there in silence,
Shocked by the FOUL EVIL deed I had done.
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there;
I had but one chance and that was to run.

Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran,
Out where the horses were tied.
I caught a good one.
It looked like it could run.
Up on its back
And away I did ride,

Just as fast as I

Could from the West Texas town of El Paso
Out to the bad-lands of New Mexico.

Back in El Paso my life would be worthless.
Everything's gone in life; nothing is left.
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death.

I saddled up and away I did go,
Riding alone in the dark.
Maybe tomorrow
A bullet may find me.
Tonight nothing's worse than this
Pain in my heart.

And at last here I

Am on the hill overlooking El Paso;
I can see Rosa's cantina below.
My love is strong and it pushes me onward.
Down off the hill to Felina I go.

Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys;
Off to my left ride a dozen or more.
Shouting and shooting I can't let them catch me.
I have to make it to Rosa's back door.

Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side.
Though I am trying
To stay in the saddle,
I'm getting weary,
Unable to ride.

But my love for

Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen,
Though I am weary I can't stop to rest.
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle.
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest.

From out of nowhere Felina has found me,
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side.
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for,
One little kiss and Felina, good-bye.
