TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras -- Roger Rojas scored a goal in each half and Olimpia beat CD FAS 2-0 on Thursday, moving the Honduran side into a virtual tie for second place in Group D of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Olimpia, which was limited to a one goal or less for a fifth straight match in all competitions, improved to four points after three rounds along with the Puerto Rico Islanders but trailing on goal difference. FAS remained in last place alone with one point. Toluca leads the group with seven.

The top two teams in each of the four groups advance to the quarterfinals.

FAS drew two yellow cards in the first eight minutes, fouls by Carlos Aparicio and Jual Carlos Moscoso, and ceded much of the possession to Olimpia.

The Honduran side had the better of play and went ahead in the 14th minute when Juan Carlos Garcia skipped a right-footed cross to the near post, where Roger Rojas sprinted in behind a static Victor Velasquez standing on the six and volleyed the ball just inside the upright.

FAS finally mounted an offensive charge two minutes later when Christian Alvarez's shot from distance was tipped wide of the right post by Olimpia keeper Noel Valladares. It's best chance of the first half came in the 32nd when Alejandro Bentos' header off a free kick dropped into the middle of the area, where Roberto Pena spun and put a shot at Valladares.

The Salvadoran side continued to push and had Gilberto Murgas' free kick from 25 meters just sail high of the crossbar in the 39th.

Both had their chances in the second with Olimpia's Ramiro Bruschi breaking in on FAS goalkeeper Luis Contreras 53 seconds after the second-half kickoff, but his shot was deflected wide.

Pablo Quandt, who entered the game in the 58th minute for Aparicio, launched a shot from 30 meters four minutes later that skipped in front of Valladares, who was unable to field it cleanly watching it glance off his left shoulder before bouncing away.

Rojas scored his second in the 81st, beating FAS defender Mardoqueo Henriquez's attempt to catch him offside, settling a looped ball inside the top of the penalty area and easily beating Contreras.

The loss was the sixth in the last eight games in all competitions for FAS, which is in last place in the Salvadoran league with four points in eight matches.

FAS returns home for its next two matches in the Champions League, against Puerto Rico on Wednesday and against Olimpia on September 30.

Olimpia will host Toluca next week before heading to El Salvador for the rematch against FAS.
