NCAAF  > General NCAAF  > UCLA eats the state of Texas (a la last millenium)

Houston last week.

The Longhorns this week.

How would have thought that the gutsy little Bruins had it in em?

I thought Texas would annihilate them in the second half today, because the defense is the trumph card this year. But the Bruins played smash-mouth on the Texas defense all through the second half.

A total embarassment.

Texas is losing its old ways slowly. Just like the Cowboys used to be 'America's Team', they aren't even Texas' team anymore

September 26, 2010  07:28 AM ET

So the broke-horns are America's college team...please! The SEC IS college football, 16 national title winners, 4 straight years. Nuff said.

September 26, 2010  07:44 AM ET

Whoops... Forgot how to count... Alabama stomped Texas for the title last year, giving the SEC 17, sorry about that.

September 26, 2010  08:15 AM ET

Smash mouth football does work sometimes against little fast defenders (see TCU/SMU as well for that). Not sure how many other teams on Texas's schedule can do that though, NEB can, don't think there is anyone else.

And UCLA will be able to break out the "Texas State Champions" t-shirts agian if they end up playing and beating TCU in the LV bowl. Very unlikely, but it would be funny.

You are just loving this, aren't you? Glad we could make your day!

In a way yes.... I don't hate Texas or anything, but an undefeated B12 Champ would be in the way of TCU or BSU playing in the big game. From here on out I hope Texas sweeps, taking care of NEB and OU in the process.

Dr. B-f-G,

The announcers did bring up a point about Texas lacking playmakers. With all the top classes Texas has been brining in did they neglect skill players or did the ones they brought in just not pan out yet in your opinion?

In other words is the RB/WR/QB situation bad luck or just a case of a coach recruiting top players for the wrong positions?

It's not enough to recruit great players - they still have to develop. IMO some of TX's stud recruits have not developed as hoped especially at RB, WR and TE.

For instance Marquise Goodwin. Great sprinter and long jumper but running track in the spring has affected his development as a college football player. Plus he's 5'-9" 170 lbs. Another great track guy at WR is 5'-9" 171 lb D. J. Monroe. Neither of these guys are imposing targets at WR and LB's frequently kick their arses over the middle. They put D. J. in the backfield yesterday and handed him the ball. Unbelieveable.

The running back position has been snakebit with injuries for several years and, once again, they haven't developed as hoped. Plus IMO we recruit too many scat backs and not enough bruisers. I was somewhat relieved when we lost the Seastrunk recruiting sweepstakes earlier this year. We don't need another waterbug we need an every-down back that can hit the hole and dish out some punishment.

Offensive line is by far our weak spot.

Greg Davis' 600 lb. playbook isn't helping either.

And a pox on you sir.....may your team trip running out of the tunnel at each and every game....

Just saying... :)

SDSU players have been on a trip now for years.....

That being said I am not sure at all the UCLA loss was good for OU. Its never good to get cocky prior to a rivalry game.

The waterbug comment makes a lot of sense. You would think with all the stud RB's in the state you would be able to get another Benson in the backfield...

Everybody knows Mack can't win the big one.

OU has too much respect for TU and vice versa....probably why TU lost and OU didn't do to well yesterday....both looking ahead. Some years it catches up.

Sounds like another basher with all the concise summations by TCU & 0u ne'er-do-wells. It was an embarrassment, me thinks out-coached.. we shall see what the next 3 weeks brings.

+1 for use of the phrase ne'er-do-wells.

Again, I hope Texas cleans house the rest of the way so I certainly hope you are right and its coaching and not a structural issue based on the size of defensive personnel.

Why you bringing in TCU and OU? Trying to redirect?

And you saying Rick Nieuhasal (or however you spell it) out-coached Mack Brown? Wow....climbed off that band wagon in a hurry, didn't you?

Might want to change your avatar then

I really dont think OU was looking ahead. I think they played exactly like they have every game this year except Fl St- inconsistently. 60% of the plays they looked phenomenal and the other 40 they looked really bad.

Mostly across the board. Except Broyles. He has looked consistently great and I think he is better than even money to win the Biletnikoff.

My brother thinks the Cincy level of effort to beat UT. I hope so but I'm not so sure unless last week's UT team shows up.
