NFL  > Cleveland Browns  > Should Seneca Wallace start the rest of the way?
September 26, 2010, 06:39 PM
Another week another close loss for Cleveland. This one honestly I'm not feeling as bad about. Sure there's a certain troll who would have exploded if we'd hung on this time but the Ravens are the best team we faced so far and we hung right in there with them.

Couple of things. I think again the main goat horns belong to a coach only this time to Rob Ryan. I loved his defense in the first two games but in this one he turned into a cliche of himself and called too many blitzes when it was clear that Wright couldn't handle Boldin. He didn't pull the trigger on playing Haden against AB even though is what he was drafted for. And he didn't play more coverage. Coverage Is a thing I'd like to see more of out of the Brownies. I want to see TJ smoke some fools going over the middle.

Question though is should we play Wallace at starter going the rest of the way. Reason is simple, physically he's near identical to Colt and if you want to find out about McCoy the quickest way is to gameplan around Wallace and let McCoy take some snaps as the back up. No mark against Jake who's been great in the locker room and on the field, but this is about long term planning. I think going to Wallace helps in the long term.

I agree with you about the defense, but not about the QB's. Wallace's style I don't think is anything like what they expect out of McCoy. Also, I think they just gave Jake another week off so he wouldn't get pounded. They are not going to get caught up in the juggling QB debacle again.

Write this down: Your ravens that you rave about and you were so sure was going to win the Superbowl this year came about this close to having the same record as the Browns.

As for Model, I was one of the fools that gave him the benefit of the doubt right up until he sunk a knife in my back. As long as his name isn't brought up, he is as much of a non issue as Robert Irsay. Birds of a feather......

I like what Wallace has done so far (all but the pick six against the Chiefs), and I think that he makes better decisions than Jake. I wouldn't mind if he continued to start, but it will be hard for the organization to justify $7 Mil on the bench based off of one poor performance in Tampa. If he is hurt that is one thing; then it's easy to say Wallace is our starter. I think that he will keep us in a better position to win games.

And where is the Cyclone/Flash packages that the Browns were raving about all training camp/preseason? We've seen three maybe four plays in that package? I like the power running game, but eventually you are going to have to mix it up...like second half adjustments.

Wallace I can see starting the rest of the way.....Eric Wright? Dunno about that one.

Well that is why we drafted Joe Hadden. And the one incomplete Boldin had, Hadden was covering

Cant explain why the Browns did not let the rookie take over for Wright. What could he have done worse? B McDonald made Wright look good; without him there Eric is exposed. He has some skills, but I just do not know where his head is half the time. He needs to be playing with a chip on his shoulder after that performance--or not playing at all.

And speaking of an apology to Art Modell....why don't you check out Sport Illustrated from Dec 4, 1995 (articles: End of an Epic, The Heart of a City, and A Busted Play). After that, read the "Letters" section in the Dec 11 1995 issue. Might shine some light on why Art should be apologizing to Cleveland...and kicking himself for all the stupid business moves he made there to put him in that position in the first place.

Saw the quote from Mangini stating that Wright will be starting on Sunday. Wright was humble about the game, took it hard and forced himself to study his film from Baltimore. He better come out blazing, or his short leash might just get yanked.

Hey did you check out the SI Power Rankings? Don Banks totally stole my theme and didn't give me credit!

He didn't even lay out the reasoning the way I did.

Hey Don! In terms of Stats Jake D has it all over Seneca. Under Jake the Browns had the 8th ranked passing offense. I suggested Seneca because he's the same size as Colt McCoy and it would be a good idea to get used to playing with a short QB. If you're going to plagarize do it right!

Just google the SI Vault and search by the dates I listed.

Again, this is just ignorant.
