16. Jets - Combo rank 61 - D is falling but rising offense puts them on top of AFC East
17. Patriots - Combo rank 63 - Awesome offense, no defense
18. Dolphins - Combo rank 64 - No surprise these three teams are bunched up in the division like this
19. Saints - Combo rank 67 - Saints still haven't woken up from post SB hangover
20. Giants - Combo rank 68 - No team has a bigger discrepancy between yds (top 10 in both categories) and pts (20 or below)
21. Texans - Combo rank 69 - D is dragging down a great offense
22. Rams - Combo Rank 75 - A good scoring defense keeps them this high
23. Browns - Combo Rank 76 - Winner of the best winless team award. Doing everything well except scoring points.
24. Seahawks - Combo Rank 81 - How do they keep winning? Special teams is a big answer
25. Redskins - Combo Rank 86 - Bad defense and a falling offense. Not happy times in DC
26. Buccaneers - Combo Rank 87 - Don't feel too bad a lot of good teams got smacked down after playing the Steelers
27. Lions - Combo Rank 96 - Another long season in Detroit
28. 49ers - Combo Rank 100 - Beginning to resemble a team in full meltdown
29. Panthers - Combo Rank 100 - Panthers have been living here since the season started
30. Cardinals - Combo Rank 101 - Somehow has a winning record despite ranking 25th or 26th across the board in every category
31. Bills - Combo Rank 111 - Offensive explosion against the Pats lifts them by one spot
32. Jaguars - Combo Rank 118 - Expensive outing against Philly as the Jags are now 30th in offensive yds, 30th in offensive pts, 29th in defensive yards and 29th in defensive pts

After 3 games...Steelers are 3-0...while playing the toughest schedule in the NFL (the 3 teams they beat are 6-0 vs. the rest of the NFL) .....all awhile having the largest margin of victoryin the NFL (13 points per game).

Still only good for #4?

Just going by the strict numbers. That is how they shake out if you add their offensive and defensive rankings together.

Do defensive points/yds include special teams scores? I doubt it. Mix in special teams scores and the Bolts disappear into the high teens or twenties probably. They've given up three KR/PR TDs and about a gazillion yards in the return game thus far. And that accounts for the 1-2 record, along with the fact that they start like crud every September for the last 5-6 years.

I don't include special teams because honestly they aren't as important as the def/off rankings. Special teams are important but efficiency in the other categories are what really count in the long run.

We have seen this before from SD and the stats sure back that up. Would not be surprised if they went 11 and 2 the rest of the way. They certainly have the team that can do that.
