NFL  > Green Bay Packers  > Should McCarthy have let the Bears Score on Monday Night?
September 30, 2010, 08:13 PM
I say yes, yes, and YES!

The odds of Aaron Rodgers marching down the field for the tying score was pretty good, certainly much better than the Packers forcing a turnover in that situation where the Bears KNOW they're going for the strip. It's infinitely more likely than Robbie Gould missing from 19 yards. Huntley missed in New Orleans but that wasn't from the 1 foot line. It was the same distance as an extra point, something that's near automatic to even the worst kickers in the league.

The only argument for McCarthy's decision is that it goes against a football player's nature. All true. For players! McCarthy is supposed to be a coach. He's supposed to think in terms of cold hard strategy and percentages. And after the Pack's 18 penalty performance the squad could have used an example of cold, unemotional decision making.
