8.Johnny Unitas 78.2, 54.6, 290-253

I debated that as well, and I shouldn't have put Eli, but I think down the road he'll be amazing with the right coaching, but Peyton will go down as the best ever. Look at his passer rating. I should have put Elway over Eli though, my bad

I cannot believe that Otto Graham's name has not been mentioned

That's because fan knowledge of NFL history is non-existent on here NM. And what is Joe Namath doing in anyone's top ten? Based on what? The SB they won had very little to do with Namath other than he's famous for guaranteeing the victory. He was nothing special as a QB. Dan Marino is also highly over-rated. No rings. Choked in the big ones like Peyton does (his SB MVP award was a joke).

Someone even had Eli Manning in their top ten!

I', not going to big-up other teams QBs, but I will say that Joe Montana is the best I've seen in my 38 years of life. Better than Brady/Manning/Favre/Aikman or any other modernish QBs. For what it's worth, =on my all-time team I'd back him up wtih another winner. Jim McMahon. The guy didn't know when he was beat and has some of the craziest comebacks ever. Also holds as many rings as either Favre, Peyton and has one more than Dan Marino. Tougher and smarter than any of those guys, career basically ended by that Packer thug Charles Martin (dead).

No, I'll throw Sid Luckman onto the pile. Who? He invented passing.

[Wiki]
During his 12 seasons with the Bears he led them to four NFL championships. Luckman was the first modern T-formation quarterback and is considered the greatest long range passer of his time. He was named the National Football League's Most Valuable Player in 1943, and Pulitzer prize winning sports writer Ira Berkow later wrote that Luckman was "the first great T-formation quarterback"

Oh no he doesn't. How many Super Bowl MVP awards does he have? How many Super Bowl Rings does he have? he doesn't have the important records. Just useless **** like consecutive games, most interceptions and most irrelevant yards were thrown.

I like how the Packer fans put Bart Starr as #1. No non-Green Bay fan would ever do that. XD

I'm sorry bro but ripping on Peyton Manning for his SB MVP (which came against the Bears) and then touting Sid Luckman... that's some heavy hitting Chicago fan bias.

Wow! Trashing Broadway Joe on the same post in which you extol the virtues of the "Punky QB". That defines hypocrisy. Rating the quarterback position is not all about numbers. It's not even all about rings. There are many intangible qualities that factor. Among these is bringing the upstart AFL to relevance. Namath's over-the-top antics (i.e. the prediction, the fur coat) made him the NFL's first superstar quarterback. He deserves his ranking and his bust in Canton.

And Jim McMahon?? Are you serious? Are we talking about the Jim McMahon who never threw for 2400 yards in a season being better than Marino? The one with a career 78.2 passer rating, smarter than Manning? The one who never started more than 13 games in a season (and even then only once) for any of the teams he played for is tougher than Favre?

McMahon definitely had a great attitude that suited his team. He had some intangibles that made people rally around him, but I don't think that there is any way that he makes a top ten QB list.

I'm not knocking McMahon. He just isn't anywhere close to being a top 10 QB. He's not in the top 25 or 30. He was an above average quarterback with a lot of heart and guts. He also had Payton and the 46 defense.

Agree 100%.

Maybe top 75 QB...

But if you include college, then McMahon could enter the conversation...this does not put him in the top ten...but gets him in the convesation.

So far. Yet Theisman and Eli have been mentioned?

I think Eli will eventually be a legend in his own right. He had one of the greatest Super Bowel plays of all time and if Cowher goes to the Giants he will have a great mentor and maybe another Bowel win.
